The fact it is unused is the increased cost. If it were fully utilized, it would be a justifiable cost rather than a waste of resources.
Code line counts is so 30the century. Now the best way to measure is the number of AI tokens burned per hour. /s
The lower rent point is one of the problems. Many of these businesses own the real estate or lease for many years at a time. If the space is 70% unused, that increases costs and looks bad.
Haven’t read it yet, but I’ll share my instant reaction to the headline.
“Oh, now that it is hitting the management, finance, and business jobs, you notice it? The people who kept you all in business (I.T., software engineering, etc.) Who’ve been fired constantly for four fucking years don’t count, do they?”
This really needs to be in “leopards ate my face”
This is standard operating procedure for China. It is how they “somehow” leapfrog U.S. technology innovations and mass produce them for their profit.
They were all backed by billionaires like the Koch brothers. They don’t make their own judgments. They believe what they are told by those they trust.
Leftists are like cats. Try getting them to move as a group, I dare you. This is the core of the problem. Ironically individualist intellectualism breeds weakness by discouraging team work.
They tend to be willing to die on their individual hills rather than build coalitions that require compromising their values.
… In coalition with the Koch brothers, who were the primary financial backers of the movement.
That is not entirely true. The Reagan revolution was composed of disillusioned Democratic voters. Most of MAGA comes from this group.
The problem is they were low information voters and did not realize the Reagan coalition was the primary cause of their distress. Then FOX news and AM radio radicalized them.
If you pay enough attention, you will notice that the difference between extreme right and extreme left is only in the politics they worship. They are the same.
Remember, the non-extreme on both sides generally want similar outcomes, but seek them through differing ideologies. Both are likely part right and part wrong.
Then there are the other non-extreme ones that have an agenda of self-enrichment and are their own variety of evil.
I personally believe more (not all) of those lean right, but I acknowledge I am influenced by my own political point of view.
You are likely correct. The liberal side has it’s unthinking zombies just like the right, and I was focusing on intellectual skill rather than political affiliations.
People need to internalize one of the most important rules of critical thought: hold your beliefs loosely and keep your identity separated from your beliefs.
Fail in that, and even genius level people will discount or deny objective facts that cast doubt on their beliefs.
Not yet.
Actually… “He’s not only hurting the people he needs to be hurting!”
Read the article before telling others what’s in it, or not in it.
Except for that tax on second homes that are mostly unoccupied like the $240M appartment.
Mamdani’s plan apparently worked, because even though the mayor didn’t get a request for increasing corporate taxes, he got Hochul to back a new pied-à-terre tax on luxury second homes that hopes to raise $500 million annually.
The proposal is already drawing sharp criticism from billionaires like Citadel CEO Ken Griffin.
And the tax on luxury property sales:
Sources in Albany say New York City asked for a new tax on cash sales of luxury apartments valued over $1 million, which is expected to raise $100 million annually. Sources in the state Legislature say approval of this tax is in play.
And also that tax credit:
The mayor also proposed raising $68 million by reducing a city business tax credit that overwhelmingly benefits millionaires.
So yeah… not taxing the rich. These people are only the top 2%, barely worth recognition by the real rich in the top .01%.
It’s Just Another Day.
I don’t think Epstein figures particularly prominently. He was just one of many. There’s no doubt it is being done on purpose. Well educated, intelligent people can see through the lies by using the tools of critical thinking. Morons just believe what they “hear” most frequently and trust only what they’re told to trust.
And when the crash happens, the demand will dry up, leaving huge unused data centers, rotting away.
In the mean time, I’m investing in the dstacenter real estate ETFs. If I can’t make a living as a software engineer anymore, I’ll have to do it as an investor.
The truth behind the why has little impact on the fact the layoffs have been constant since 2023. Some charts show tech jobs declining since 2019.
People can’t wait around while companies circle-jerk. They will move on, crash into poverty, or retire. People in college will stop learning the theory and mechanics. The labor force will evaporate - just the way it happened in manufacturing.
When hiring begins again, it will be a rude awakening. Those who still can do the work will command even higher wages.
Just a reminder that real devs are using AI, and even vibe coding because the alternative is unemployment. I agree with the sentiment, though.
If these yahoos come back to hire people like me who were dismissed like so much garbage, they are going to find we processed our loss and moved on after a year of self reflection and accepatance.
They will either pay us through the nose to convince us to help, or piss off.
This is probably why civilizations collapse after 500 to 900 years. The morons become the majority, then only the smartest and healthiest survive the fall, wonder around for a few hundred years trying to pull it together, then the cycle repeats.
