CCXXI. King Ambros II

Ambros II. A king of Folda from the post-Ostrom era.

This is another in my series of scratch built dead people busts. I got to try out new materials I've purchased, like tiny faux gems and pearls (sold as fingernail decorations). Great stuff. I was channelling catacomb saints for this one (I've written about them a bit before: LINK).

The piece is cca 65mm tall. Made of mixed materials, including epoxy putty, DAS clay, card, cotton, wire, jewellery elements, thumbtacks, etc. Those of you who follow me on Instagram have seen some work in progress shots already.

CCXIII. Demonic Snail Critter

Kickstarter update: the campaign is doing really well. Many thanks to all backers! A demonic snail, stretch goal at 6500CA$, is now unlocked. Just finished sculpting it yesterday. It's available as a 5 dollar add on. Still 21 days to go.

The ruler is marked in inches.

Size comparison with a couple other demons. They fit on 25mm slotta bases.

It's a concept from a few years ago, when I made a similar snail demon conversion. With my current skills I was now able revisit the idea and sculpt the entire creature from scratch. Working on its skin texture was especially enjoyable. I used white and standard Milliput for bulking out the shapes, and green stuff + Milliput hybrid for most of the detail work.

CCXI. Sign Posts and Animal Skulls - My Sculpts in Metal

The final batch of my sculpts got a lick of paint. As you can see, these aren't standalone miniatures like the rest, but rather accessories for basing or scenery.

CCVIII. Bloodfiend and Custodian Wraith - My Sculpts in Metal

If you follow me on Instagram you might have caught this yesterday: I've received a bunch of metal minis cast from my last year's sculpts. I'm quite thrilled about it. The minis will see a release by Harwood Hobbies soon, so if you like them you'll be able to get some for yourself.  I'll be painting one of each through the next couple weeks, and I'll definitely let you all know when they become available.

I've already painted the first two:

CUSTODIAN WRAITH

BLOODFIEND

These ghosts are white metal miniatures, and 37-40mm tall. The bases I put them on are 32mm diameter, but they were designed to fit OK on 25mm slotta bases.

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing other people's paintjobs on these.

CLXXXVII. Kill Team: Second Necron Immortal and Warrior Reinforcements

Back to my Necron Kill Team. Since the last update their number has doubled, as I converted and painted three more Warriors and one Immortal.

This Immortal was converted from an actual Immortal model. It was missing its left leg from the knee down. I'm pretty sure I used that for one of my Technobarbarians last year. I found a Skitarii foot as replacement. The weapon, which represents a gauss blaster, is a splice of a Genestealer mining laser and a big gun from Belisarius Cawl. These Genestealer hands have a skeletal look that's very fitting for my Necrons. The head is once again a human skull.

Visible from the image below, she's shorter than her cancerous friend. While the warriors are pretty much skeleton clones, I envisioned the Immortals as being more diverse in appearance, as well as a bit less bare metal bones. You may have noticed the first Immortal has ears, and this one has lips. Further up the hierarchy we go, the less skeletal and less uniform they look. This is my visual interpreetation of Necron background, which says the higher up a Necron, the less of their 'self' was lost during the biotransference. I have ideas for other Necron units, which I might eventually convert even though I won't be able to use them in Kill Team.

The three new Warriors are nothing exciting. As I said, they need to look uniform, so there is minimal variation here.

There are four models left to do: the leader Immortal and three Flayed Ones. I have made up my mind on what I'll be doing with the Flayed (or at least what I'll attempt to do), and I procured the material. But I still want to do the last Immortal first. He should be the most impressive figure in the group, and will be interesting to convert.

There are a few new sculpts that I showed on Instagram, but they didn't get their own blog post.

Three wooden sign posts. I love this kind of stuff and I definitely want to make more such terrain and basing accessories.

A happy little horse skull familiar. Can't wait to paint this guy. Good news is that a bunch of my sculpts, including these four, have been shipped to a caster this week. We're one step closer to having my scupts released!

CLXXXIV. Corpse on a Stick and a Demon Sculpt

I have been homebrewing rules for my Folda warband, and that inspired me to paint something for them again. This grisly trophy is made up of remains of a yellow-robed cultist of Vvolos. Janos the Cannibal, an infamous ghoul witch hunter, likes to display these to strike fear into the hearts of worshippers and creatures of chaos that would threaten the kingdom.

I used a Chainrasp, brass rod, antlers from the Blightking kit, and putty. I'll make more of these, eventually. And a ghoul witch hunter who carries a stack of these and plants them around the battlefield.

Newest finished sculpt: a demon. I wanted to sculpt a beastman, but things took a turn and I ended up with this. What can I say, that's Chaos for you...

CLXXIII. Old-School Wose Sculpt and WIP Peasant House

Enthusiasm for sculpting has still not left me, and here's the latest model I've finished. A shambling wildman done in the style of old Citadel miniatures. At the moment, I'm back to working on the Countess' spirits: a better version of the Bloodfiend, as well as a Custodian sculpt. Eventually I'll do the others as well.

This Wose was sculpted over a wire skeleton, using greenstuff , Milliput and a combination of the two. The tiny black spheres are micro glass balls from Greenstuff World. For size reference - the model is standing on a 20mm square base.

Still more than two months left until the Legen game, but it's best to avoid having to do things last minute. During the next couple weeks I'll be making the four houses we need for our table. First I'm doing just this one, to test my plans and see if there are any problems so I can find solutions. Then it will be easier and quicker to go through the rest of them in a single batch.

I carved and assembled the basic shape out of polistyrene. I want the roofs to be bumpy and curvy, since that looks more interesting than just straight lines. Hence the underlying structure of tape stretched over roughly cut polystyrene. The thatch will be done with teddy bear fur, but I needed to model the wood underneath. Just the parts on the edges will do, since the rest won't be visible in the end. I used balsa to represent the timber parts, and DAS clay for the wattle and daub areas which are framed by the timber. It didn't take a lot of time, and that's great since this part is the least interesting. Now I got to the detail work: the bit I enjoy the most.
