If your strict app name search is already toggled off, then it's not enabled on your end. You can leave as is.

If you open Settings > Helper tab there's a very thorough and descriptive section on why and what it does.

OK, just had occasion to uninstall Keka. Dragged it to the trash.

Pear found 6 or 8 orphans which I deleted.

I than ran Find any File and got the following. I would think all but last two can be deleted, but why did Pear not find these as orphans?

Would I have been better off deleting from Pear rather than dragging to the trash?

Were those files not found by Pearcleaner when you clicked on Keka in the sidebar?
It "should" be finding those and then have Pearcleaner clean them up. Moving the app to Trash manually kind of defeats the purpose of the app.
Without knowing what orphan files Pearcleaner found and didn't find compared to Find any file, I wouldn't be much help.

OK. Thanks. Next time I try will delete with Pear, then check orphans, then check my HD.

This test showed me how much dragging to the trash leaves behind. Next time will see a different perspective.

The Logitech files/folders you find after the fact are not named the same as the app name or bundle id. It contains the keyword "Logitech" but in order for Pearcleaner to find it, I'd need to split up the name of the app into individual components and search on each one. For majority of apps this is not usually needed as it would find a TON of unrelated files. Logitech has a tendency to name files and folders very differently from their app names. Most cleaner apps search based on the app name and bundle id.

As an example, say I did search for files based on the app name split up into individual components. If we search for files for an app called let's say "Music Player", very generic name, right? It would find all files with the word music or player in them. As you can imagine this would probably find a lot of files not actually related to the app itself. This happens a lot with generic app names. Pearcleaner has no way of knowing which music or player file is actually related to that app. So searching on the whole app name is usually safer. Yes it will find less, but it will also have a higher percentage return rate for valid files.

I've thought a lot about how I could keep the search accurate but also find more files, and the only ways I've found are either I maintain a database of apps and their related files or add in some sort of AI to check each file. And both of those seem overkill.

It might be easier to just add a new feature to Pearcleaner where you can do a keyword search kind of like Find any files. That wouldn't be very hard.

Yeah I would say those are safe to remove manually as well.

They don't match because the bundle id Pearcleaner tries to match on is:
com.belcarra.installer
and
com.logitech.harmony.cappuccino.client....

Neither of those are part of the unfound results in the screenshot that I can see.

Yes it would've found those, but we'd run into the same issue with app names separated into components.
If I search on partial bundle id components, other apps with more common bundle id's will start returning more unrelated files.
I actually used to have it search on the whole bundle id and also on the first 2 or 3 components of the bundle id in the past, but I had to revert it to only the full bundle id because it was finding too many unrelated files. So here we are now 😂 full circle
