Keeping internal and external types in sync #4987

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
We have internal and external TS types, which are mostly the same but have subtle differences (this issue #4984 as an example). We need to come up with a way of:
- Keeping those types in sync
- Avoid types duplication
