I have a friend who runs a small business with a list of about 2000 phone numbers she wants to send sms text, too, all within the same rough time frame of about 2 hours, roughly once to 6 times per week. She's very open to the idea of open source, rather than a commercially available bulk sms sending service. She runs a very discrete company and her customers have all chosen to not allow the sharing of their information to ANYONE but her. She is highly concerned with the security of the information of her clientele. And she does not trust the security systems of any company after seeing the breaches of personal info we all know are far too common.
I have a little bit of linux background, but I'm not super versed in much of the command line processes. So I'm a bit of a noob on some levels. I'd like to be able to get this configured with a gui so even a 75 year old woman with windows computer experience can understand how to use with minimal training or any command line experience.
I'm hoping to find out if Gammu can be integrated for her needs. Any basic outline of what needs to be done, in a number order, <1, 2, 3... > step format will help. If I understand the macro view of what to do, I can break down each major step into it's sub-steps with the help of the community. I currently run 3 versions of linux. Ubuntu 20.04 is my main system that I was hoping to integrate Gammu into. But I also run a second to most recent version of LInuxmint and my back up computer runs a version of Bunsen Labs. I hear Gentoo has it included in the distro and I'm open to reloading a new OS on any one of my computers, if it makes it easier.
I understand that I need to find either a phone or a modem. And the phone option seems very doable for her desires. But if a modem works better, I have very little understanding of what hardware is easy/inexpensive to attain. The amount of time it takes to send the messages isn't a super big issue. But she's hoping to have all of the 2000 numbers able to be messaged in under 8 hours. I don't know enough about how fast each type of hardware is for this process. But my friend is also open to using multiple systems and sending devices. So if the phone list can be split up and used in groups by either the same computer, using multiple sending devices running multiple instances of Gammu, that's fine, too.
Any insight on this could really help. My friend wants to launch this as soon as possible and I have taken on the responsibility to see if I can make it happen for her the way she wants.
Thanks in advance,
Scot
