Vico draws all of its content using Canvas, thus, at the current stage it's impossible to use composables. As you mentioned, SpannableString can be used. Additionally, Vico exposes Canvas to the customer, so it gives you the flexibility to draw anything.

Regarding TextComponent.draw, it’s indeed final—my bad. As shared under #1119, we plan on making it open, so please stay tuned there.

Until then, as per @Gowsky’s comment, you can introduce a custom implementation or subclass at a higher level and draw text manually rather than with TextComponent—enabling you to add shadows. This, however, may be more involved.
