@mluck I don't understand your first question. https://github.com/rasterio/rasterio/blob/main/docs/topics/switch.rst#mutual-incompatibilities is as clear as I could be about not importing rasterio and osgeo.gdal together. Or osgeo.ogr for that matter. Possible problems you could see:
I don't provide a lot of specifics in that document because I don't want to help people use rasterio and osgeo.* together and I don't want to suggest that there is any happy path at all. |

I just added some changes to the switching doc in #3318 to mention osgeo.ogr specifically and differentiate between osgeo and rasterio contending for global objects, and the DLL Hell situation where they load different, incompatible libraries. |
