From one perspective - keeping all the discussions and code on one platform is potentially problematic, it's always better to use competing services. From the other one - keeping everything here is quite convenient, and I wouldn't be often checking the other platform. We have a lot less SW fans than there are Dungeon Keeper fans, so I doubt the discord would be as successful. We have other forums already: GOG forum, and Google group for SW Port. Both these combined have on average one post per 3 weeks. Personally, I don't see a need for another forum. Let's see if there are other voices. |

The reason I suggested is that people are extremely busy - especially those at the age of an avg Syndicate fan - and impatient these days, with the ridiculous saturation of the gaming market and all the distractions available without any effort. Maybe 1% checks Google groups etc. (I didn't even know anybody still used these) while many players are on discord already and it's much better for building some kind of community. Github serves a completely different purpose. I had trouble finding useful info, like e.g. why my install failed on my mac initially or later, how to zoom out, and the first thing I checked after the wiki (I initially missed the page with the zoom variables) was if there was a discord. So I thought about devoting some time to create a server, get the devs there, mention it to different groups and people, maybe (if I had the time) contact the press about the project and the discord with one of the upcoming updates. Things like that. That said, no point in this if you don't like the idea of popping in there, so no pressure. I thought maybe it would be also a good place to communicate amongst contributors, announce the releases, among other things. Just wanted to give it a go, understanding that we're all busy here, not aiming for the moon. I'm totally fine with just being a player and checking the progress here from time to time. Thought I'd chip in as I love the project and the original franchise. Bullfrog was my favourite gaming company back in the day and the port sent me back. |

If you're finding this thread now: join the SWars discord here
Hey guys, firstly - thanks for all your work. I'm a huge Syndicate fan, but never played Syndicate Wars before. I booted the game (via Crossover on mac m1) and, controls-related jank aside, I'm surprised how much I love it despite its age.
Long story short: what do you think about me creating a Syndicate discord for SWars contributors and the fans of the series, centered around this project? Will grant the devs all the necessary permissions. I've created/managed really large communities for various projects and I could spin up a new server quickly.
Would be much more convenient to chat, discuss dev, pin the FAQ there etc. - might help you get some fresh blood, and I can try to invite some people involved in the FreeSynd project and such. A small, laid back place. I'm really busy, but such a small server won't require much work and it might be interesting. I'm a gamedev by day, dealing with design, writing and promotion, but also spaghetti coding - maybe I'd be able to learn something from what you're doing here code-wise.
