Description
The amount of spammy new issues and comments in issues has reached a level that is putting collaboration in its entirety at risk.
The problem is not limited to the schema.org repository (others are facing similar problems), but we cannot wait for Github to offer a solution.
Immediate Action
- Limiting interaction to exiting users and contributors for a certain period, see https://docs.github.com/en/communities/moderating-comments-and-conversations/limiting-interactions-in-your-repository#about-temporary-interaction-limits
- Blocking
and reportingall user accounts engaged in spam for all repositories of the schemaorg organization on Github. - Ideally, also delete the old spam issues, as they might contain links to malicious content.
For the moment, I see no other way than to disable notifications from this repository, which basically blocks effective collaboration.
These steps require admin rights for the repository - who has those?

Long-Term Approach
- Evaluate how suitable Github issues are for soliciting feedback and suggestions from the large, heterogeneous group of stakeholders.
- Adding a template for new issues that (1) increases the effort for creating a new issue and (2) eases the detection of spammy issues, see https://docs.github.com/en/communities/using-templates-to-encourage-useful-issues-and-pull-requests/configuring-issue-templates-for-your-repository.
- Identify and block origins of spam on a regular basis.
