The contentSettings API allows for control over a variety of capabilities user agents might expose to websites. One such capability in Chromium-based browsers is the ability to play audio (see e.g. chrome://settings/content/sound). It would be ideal for extensions to be able to control this ability, just as they can control other interesting capabilities.
