magoski I look up and see my father —
steadied by cane & habit
He looks at me like a map:
confirming I am the way he thought,
We rise together in one breath.
we sing to the world:
not in triumph, but in careful tending.
We choose care over haste, listening over noise,
love over ledger.
We make time to sit, to listen, to belong.
We forge a simple truth:
love is small and patient.
I ask him for five minutes — and in that small bargain
we make a covenant: I will be present; and he will be remembered.
Favorite track: forever.

about

citrine is the collaborative project of our very own Brad Deschamps (anthéne) with Melbourne-based vocalist, violist, producer and sound alchemist Phoebe Dubar. Phoebe is well established for her work as IKSRE (I Keep Seeing Rainbows Everywhere), releasing on labels such as Constellation Tatsu, Hush Hush Records and Lo Recordings, alongside collaborative albums with international artists on Ambientologist, Past Inside the Present, Stereoscenic and Polar Seas Recordings.

Their music as citrine perfectly blends anthéne's deep evolving ambient patterns with Phoebe's ethereal vocals featuring lush strings and throbbing bass synth tones to produce a truly remarkable album of neo-classical ambient pop music of real heart and dynamism.

There's something about these modern times that has impacted our ability to just stop and be ourselves, so filled with anxiety and a need to 'keep up' as things move ever faster. Music is a tool of great communication and expression that allows us to stop and access what it truly means to be deeply, inherently human and one with the world. There is something within yet beyond ourselves that is deep, spiritual and healing at any given moment. We just have to allow ourselves time and space to access that part of our make-up and who we truly are at root.

'line of sight' works as a focal point for such a journey to the self and beyond. The seeming juxtaposition of the deep bass tones and the highs of the strings alongside slowly rhythmic gongs and the floating vocals just work in such an organic way, as if it was music not created at all. Perhaps it is a reflection of more ancient voices that still exist within us, of a music that always existed in the space between.

Such is the ancient nature and feel of the music, I'm reminded of a great quote from Salman Rushdie who noted "it may be argued that the past is a country from which we have all emigrated, that its loss is part of our common humanity." However intentional or unintentional our rush to move on head first into an ever-rapid modernity, the whole of our past is fundamental to who we are in the present moment. The voices and spaces of the past are with us always, guiding us on. We just have to take time out to listen and be one in the moment. It is here, in this moment beyond, that we find our line of sight.

Thank you for listening.
