Announcing the Prototype Lobby - Help us test new games + features

Great news coming right up!

In the next few days we will be introducing the Prototype Lobby (PTL), available to all players.
Simply put, the Prototype Lobby will allow us to test new concepts for minigames, modes and features at a faster rate than ever before. This will be the craziest place on Hypixel –
It will allow us to innovate and take risks while involving you, the players, in the development process at every step.

Instead of risking lots of time and making a full minigame and all the strain that goes with it, we can use the Prototype Lobby to rapidly test new ideas, freeing up more development time to work on updates and quality of life improvements to other classic games across the server.
Most Prototype content will only be around for a limited time, and are highly likely to be removed. However, the best of the best will have the chance to make it into a full minigame, feature or mode on the server.

More Minigames, More Fun
One of the biggest problem we face today is that Hypixel already has lots of minigames, but this large variety is also what makes the Server so fun to play on. So how do we keep ourselves motivated to innovate without adding new full games that take lots of time to develop and maintain?

The Prototype Lobby is the answer; it will allow us keep innovating without worrying about hurting the current ecosystem. Before making a full minigame (kits/coins/quests/achievements/etc) we want to make sure it’s worth our time whilst also getting feedback and suggestions from the community as we test.

If a minigame is not good enough, we can easily remove it, avoiding the strain of having yet another game to keep updating. The prototype minigames you like best might become full Hypixel minigames, resulting in a higher quality of new content.

More Updates Across the Server
Updating existing minigames and server features is a big priority for us in 2017, and we want to make sure we can put more time into doing it right. The upcoming Prototype Lobby will allow us to test modes, kits and features for existing games and also frees up developers to do more across the server, as they won’t be stuck working for a long time on a single minigame that may end up being cancelled because it’s doesn’t meet our standard of quality.

Community Driven
As part of involving the community directly, the Prototype Lobby will include a currency called Hype. Each PTL game has a Hype Meter, and by playing games you can earn Hype which you can choose to add to any game in the lobby. Hype up your favorites to let us know which games you'd like us to focus on!

It’s also very important that you share your feedback and suggestions by posting on the Prototype Lobby forums after the lobby launches.

Remember that all games in the Prototype Lobby are currently in-development, and may be removed or changed at any time. These games will be less polished than our other minigames and you may encounter bugs, glitches or other issues. That's all part of the process.

The Prototype Lobby will be launching by next week and we plan to include 3 new minigames and 1 mode to start, with many more to come.

Arcade Update - New Maps, Achievements and Bugfixes

Exciting news - we've just updated Arcade with a massive bug and achievement patch - as well as some awesome new maps - which will fix those pesky bugs you have encountered and give the achievement hunters out there some more achievements to work towards!

We've added 25+ new achievements to Arcade, including 9 tiered achievements and a ton of unique one time achievements which you can hunt to achieve! We have added a bunch of achievements to the gamemodes which previously didn't, as well as some of the most popular Arcade gamemodes!

Bug fixes and changes

A lovely list of bugs have been squished in this update as well as a few quality of life changes.

  • Fixed "Getting an Upgrade" achievement for Creeper Attack
  • You can no longer see your own disguise in Farm Hunt
  • Increased the starting number of Animals in Farm Hunt to 18 and Hunters to 6
  • Diamond Sword in Creeper Attack now has base damage of 8 (so it deals more damage than the Iron Sword)
  • Fixed Zombies in Blocking Dead dropping Iron Ingots
  • Fixed the scoreboard in Bounty Hunters not going past 99
  • Renamed Melee powerup to Damage powerup in Creeper Attack
  • Fixed players getting stuck in the air when being hit by a fireball in Dragon Wars (can now use the command /stuck)
  • Added all gamemodes to the scoreboard in the Arcade lobbies
  • Fixed being killed when you mount your dragon in Dragon Wars

  • Added the Traders health in the boss bar, as well as above the hotbar in Creeper Attack
  • Baby Pig Zombies no longer regain all of their health when they grow up in Creeper Attack unless they are already at full health
  • Fixed weird teleportation bug which would teleport you to the top of the map when you teleported below y=0 and vise versa in Ender Spleef
  • Iron Sword in Creeper Attack now has Sharpness II
  • Reduced Pig Fishing length to 75 seconds from 90 in Party Games 1
  • Reduced the number of waves before the number of platforms to hide below start reducing in Avalanche in Party Games 1
  • Added new achievements
  • Mob Heads in Build Battle now show the correct skulls for the different head types
  • In Galaxy Wars you will have Resistance 2 in a 10 block radius from your spawn
  • Splash Potions will no longer say they heal the trader when they don't in Creeper Attack
  • Coin summary is now given at the end of Farm Hunt and Hole In The Wall correctly
  • Will no longer say you can dismount the Dragon by pressing SHIFT in Dragon Wars
  • Should no longer see spectators in Mini Walls
  • Fixed not getting you arrows correctly in Bounty Hunters
  • Arcade now shows all gamemodes in the compass
  • Number of players for Build Battle in the compass has been set to the right number (12 -> 16)

The Road Ahead

I hope you guys are having great holidays!

Today we are excited to give out some information about the game we have been working on.

First of all, a lot has changed in the past few months. The team has doubled in size, the budget has grown significantly from 750k USD to 3.6mil USD and a lot of potential partners (even competitors!) have shown great interest in our game. The future is looking more than legendary.

Production on the game is going extremely well - we're definitely far enough in that we can create a trailer, waiting just a bit longer though will make a big difference in how great we can make the first impression. I know some (pretty much all of you!) will be disappointed we couldn’t deliver a trailer this year, but you got to trust us on this one when we say it’s for the best for the game. At this point even sharing screenshots, videos or artwork could hurt the project on many levels that I will be able to talk about when we actually release the trailer.

Taking our time and ensuring that we only recruit the best onto the team is a luxury we can afford right now. Production started over a year ago and 8 months ago we felt so confident in-fact that we were able to increase the budget assigned to the game and made the team bigger!

To tell you a little bit about what our goal is. Our mission statement is "Empower the Community". It features technologies and innovations that we think are unlike any other game. To enable communities to use it in ways unrealized by any other project. The objective is to not only make a great game - but a place for communities to grow & flourish. The game of course features PVE, PvP and Modding tools, as you would expect from a game that we would make!

With a project scope so ambitious - we knew from day 1 that we wouldn't be able to do this entirely by ourselves. We are teaming up with some really exciting groups and will be announcing who some of those guys are pretty soon.

Approximately 50% of the Admins at Hypixel are working on the new game, we are going to keep roughly that ratio. It's very important to us that production on the Minecraft server continues as it does today. The cost to produce the new game stands at roughly 3.6 million USD over 3 years, and without your support - it just wouldn't be possible. The great news is that because of the success of the Hypixel Minecraft server - regardless of what happens to Minecraft playercounts and so on- we are able to complete the project no matter what.

We also know many of you will be eager to set up your identities. I'm very happy to reveal that we will have a name reservation process that will allow the Hypixel community as well as Content creators to reserve their IGNs. More details on that to follow around the same time the game is unveiled.

Many of the guys working on the game don't get a chance to interact with you on a daily basis like the Minecraft Server team does (they will be after we formally reveal the game) so I wanted to share with you the make up and list of the team. (Please note, many of these names are working on both projects at once!)

3 New Mythic Classes
Mythic classes are a new category of class which require dedication time, and skill to upgrade.
Each level of upgrade beyond III has an increasingly difficult challenge attached to it.

All requirements are earned in Normal Mode.

Challenge Mode
Challenge mode is a new way to play custom 20-24 player Mega Walls games with friends, parties, or guilds.

In this mode you can customize game settings like wither health, preparation time, game length and more. You can also choose your own map and up to 4 spectators and manually select your team. Click below to find out more!

If you're looking to mess around with friends, host guild tournaments, or duel other parties this is a great game-mode to do that. We hope this addresses a lot of the feedback we've been getting from the community :)

Please Note: Coins, achievements, and quests are disabled in this mode.

Prestige and Enderchest Revamp
We've revamped both the prestige and enderchest systems. For enderchests we've added the ability to purchase up to 5 rows of item space and we've even given 1 row FREE to everyone!   • Bomberman:
    • Transform your explosive arrows into TNT projectiles.
Zombie:

  • Zombomb:
    • Combust into a fountain of zombies when using the heal ability.
Creeper:

  • Love Bomb:
    • Gives your detonate ability a shower of loveheart particles when you explode.
Enderman:

  • 4th Dimensional Beatbox:
    • Enderman drops a beat so fly that he zips right out the other side.
Herobrine:

  • Apparitions:
    • While using the Herobrine class, using wrath will momentarily summon multiple Herobrine apparitions around your target.

    • While playing the pirate class, this changes the default Cannonball into a Note Block, complete with a tune!
Hunter:

We've been hard at work testing and correcting issues with bugs and balancing. Click below to reveal a full changelog.

Skeleton:
  • Add Iron Sword (Unbreaking III) to max kit
  • Projectile Protection on the helmet was reduced to III

Zombie:
  • Heals user and other teammates for 6 HP, this skill only heals ally Zombies for ½ of that
  • Berserk is now 37.5% at max
  • Berserk now has Speed II instead of Speed I

Creeper:
  • TNT Mining is now 35% at max

Enderman:
  • Teleport Coodown is reduced to 6 seconds
  • Soul Destroyer is replaced by Soul Charge

Herobrine:
  • EPH increased to 25
  • Wrath damage reduced by 0.5
  • Flurry is changed to a 65% of activating with no cooldown
  • Kit Helmet now only receives Unbreaking

Spider:
  • Leap now only gives Slowness I
  • Drop Shock damage cap reduced to 14
  • Feather Falling removed from the boots
  • Nest Egg Spiders only teleport every 7 seconds until they are killed
  • Shovel now only receives Efficiency I

Squid:
  • EPH reduced to 10
  • Inner Ink radius changed to 4 blocks
  • Squid Splash at max now deals 3 damage and heals for ⅔ of that
  • Rejuvenate Instant health is replaced by a fast regeneration effect that heals the same amount

Dreadlord:
  • Shadow Burst damage is reduced by 1
  • Soul Eater at max now has a 20% chance to heal 2 HP and restore 3 hunger points

Shaman:
  • EPH reduced to 7
  • Wolves now spawn next to the player instead of on top of them
  • Tornado’s changed to true damage (0.8 - 2.0)
  • Spirit Gathering increased by 16%

Arcanist:
  • Arcane Beam changed to true damage (1.0 - 2.5)
  • Arcane Explosion changed to true damage (1.0)

Golem:
  • EPH reduced to 10
  • Iron Heart cooldown lowered to 20 seconds
  • Regen potions durations have been decreased by 1 second
  • Slowness potions no longer affect teammates
  • Axe efficiency is reduced to I
  • Momentum increased by 1%

Blaze:
  • Fireballs now deal 10 damage each, but may only hit one player per fireball.
  • Fireballs now penetrate 2 - 3 blocks
  • Fire Arrow slowness is changed to I (Everything else is the same)
  • Protection I added to the Pants
  • Additional 64 Arrows added to the Kit

Pigman:
  • Valor skill activates on all nearby teammates regardless of health (Resistance still only applies when below 20HP)
  • Valor skill regen will apply 5 seconds of regen instead of 4 (Only affects the Pigman, and activates at any health)
  • Endurance skill now activates at 14 HP
  • Added an Armor rotation to Resourcefulness

Pirate:
  • Angry Bird location improved to allow pirates to get rid of them
  • Sea Legs now activates at 24 HP and the cooldown is now 30 seconds.
  • Sword renamed to Cutlass and Potions renamed to Rum
  • High Steaks replaced with Treasure Looter

Hunter:
  • Can now only activate Eagles Eye with your bow
  • Mobs spawn next to the player instead of on them
  • Spawns with a Golden Apple at max
  • Spawns with a Carrot on a stick at max
  • Haste I removed from Force of Nature after the walls fall
  • Cow replaced with an Explosive sheep in Animal Companion
  • Golden Glasses buffed to 25%

Map Fixes:
Forsaken:

  • Fixed players being able to block glitch onto the roof

Dragonkeep:​

  • Fixed Spiders being able to leap onto inaccessible locations

Serpents:​

  • Removed Vines, which were causing anti-cheat issues

City:​

  • Fixed Stone blocks with incorrect ID's


General changes:


  • Players can now talk before the game starts

  • Removed draws, system now analyzes game statistics and attempts to choose the team who most deserves the win

  • Added a lobby message when a player prestiges a class

  • Last wither bonus changes to 250 coins

  • After 30 seconds the last wither can die from decay (1 hp per second until dead)

  • Added color blind menu

  • /surface now teleports players to spawn instead of giving an error when in a castle

  • Chests now spawn from mining dirt/farmland/coarse dirt/wood at a reduced rate

  • All abilities are now true damage and rebalanced

  • Removed hunger when in the sky

  • The amount of arrows in chests has been increased

  • Changed Jimmy’s so they no longer die passively, they now die once the original player’s wither dies

  • Expanded the prestige menu

  • Reworked all shop GUIs

  • Added cages to game start

  • Added particles to show when a player’s ability is ready

  • Added spectator chat back

  • Changed snow blocks so they now drop snow blocks

  • Changed potato crop plant drop to baked potatos
Coin changes:

  • If the player is 20 blocks or less from the spawn point and has not left that radius, they are worth 0 coins. These kills/assists also count towards your 18/18 cap.

  • Inside Enemy Base: 3 coin base

  • Middle of Map: 3 coin base

  • Your Base: 6 coin base

  • Final kill/assist base: 8 coin base

  • Fixed Groopo Kupo & Slayer achievements

  • Fixed Mega Walls Guardian achievement

  • Fixed Chest Finder achievement

  • Fixed This is my final form! achievement

  • Fixed Going to the Gym achievement

  • Fixed players being able to /kill after their wither died

  • Fixed #rekt signs not showing up

  • Fixed kill credit on Skeleton’s explosive arrow and Golem’s iron punch

  • Fixed Golem’s iron punch sometimes dealing double damage

  • Fixed Hunter receiving haste after the walls fall

  • Fixed Hunter being able to stack arrows on a wither and instant kill players

  • Fixed unintended projectiles activating Zombie’s passive

  • Fixed an exploit with Spider’s gathering talent being used on protected blocks

  • Fixed teammates activating Squid’s rejuvenate

  • Fixed not being able to break blocks while holding compass

  • Fixed Skeleton’s salvaging skill so it gives proper saturation

  • Fixed wither skulls from knocking back teammates

  • Fixed kill credit immediately after your wither is killed

  • Fixed Hunter’s night vision giving blindness when a Squid drinks a potion

  • Fixed Herobrine not receiving strength when killing a player via fall damage

  • Fixed consistency issues with Dreadlord’s shadow burst

  • Fixed consistency issues with Spider’s dropshock

  • Fixed consistency issues with Skeleton’s explosive arrow damage

  • Fixed Pirate’s cannonball ability sometimes traveling through blocks

  • Fixed Pirate’s sea legs ability activating on assists or by hitting teammates with low hp

  • Fixed wither bonus credit being awarded to the wrong player

  • Fixed Hunter’s ability activating when right clicking items other than its bow

  • Fixed Spider’s gathering talent not giving ingots from farmland/coarse dirt

  • Fixed Squid’s Rejuvenate cooldown incorrectly displaying in shop

  • Fixed final kills visually dropping kit items

  • Fixed receiving half energy when hitting a Squid using rejuvenate

  • Fixed Skeleton’s explosive arrow activating while not holding bow

  • Fixed kill credit on Shaman’s wolves

  • Fixed Enderman’s enderchest skill sometimes doubling kit items

  • Fixed karma not being rewarded before coin summary

  • Fixed right clicking cauldrons causing potions to be consumed server side

  • Fixed drinking potions near water sometimes giving water bottles

  • Fixed Nicked player’s health incorrectly displaying

  • Fixed Enderman’s teleport sometimes causing players to get stuck in blocks
