Bahasa Yunani Siprus (bahasa Yunani: κυπριακά ελληνικά; pengucapan Yunani: [kipriaˈka elːiniˈka] atau κυπριακά [kipriaˈka]) adalah salah satu ragam bahasa Yunani Modern yang dituturkan di Siprus. Ragam ini sangat berbeda dengan bahasa Yunani Baku Modern[note 2] dalam beberapa aspek seperti leksikon,[3] fonetik, fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, dan bahkan pragmatik,[4] tidak hanya karena alasan sejarah, tetapi juga karena letak yang terpencil, pola pemukiman yang berbeda, dan kontak yang luas dengan bahasa yang berbeda secara tipologis.[5]
Penggolongan
[sunting | sunting sumber]Bahasa Yunani Siprus bukanlah evolusi dari bahasa Yunani Arkadia-Siprus, namun diturunkan dari bahasa Yunani Abad Pertengahan yang digunakan di Kekaisaran Bizantium.[6] Secara tradisional, penggolongan bahasa ini ditempatkan pada kelompok tenggara ragam bahasa Yunani Modern, bersama dengan ragam Dodekanisa dan Khios (secara fonologi).
Meskipun bahasa Yunani Siprus cenderung dianggap sebagai dialek oleh penuturnya, bahasa ini tidak dapat dipahami oleh penutur bahasa Yunani Baku Modern tanpa pengetahuan ragam yang memadai.[7] Penuturnya memiliki diglosia tersendiri dalam bahasa sehari-hari yang berbeda dengan penutur bahasa Yunani Baku Modern[8][9] Bahasa Yunani Siprus merupakan kesinambungan dialek tanpa adanya bentuk baku dari bahasa ini.[10][11]
