Baste super, super well and check every few rows to see if you need to re-baste as you go. With all that maneuvering, things can get out of alignment. Ask the puckers on the back of this quilt how I know 😅

If your quilt is a rectangle, consider vertical lines only so you’re never cramming the longest side through your machine.

Never put more than half of the quilt through the throat—roll until you get to the halfway point, then flip the quilt around and go from the other side.

Choose a forgiving stitch like this serpentine one and use a walking foot!

Do a few rows at a time and take lots of breaks! It’s Quilt Big, Vertical Lines, Christmas Quilt, Dreams Come True, Quilt Sewing, The Other Side, Save Yourself, For Real, So Excited

Before I start my post today, I wanted to say a BIG thank you for all your wonderful comments on my scrap vortex quilt. Each and every one is much appreciated! THANK YOU! I'm sure you've seen -and you probably own-at least a few mini charm packs. Each one contains 42 2 1/2" pre-cut squares. Moda aptly calls them Candy. (I'm not sure what other companies call them.) They are cute, sweet, and too good to pass up! But, what DO you do with them? EVERYONE that I talk to asks that. Since I have a…

No More Getting Stuck in Corners or Having to Cross Over! Stipple quilting looks simple, and it actually is, yet many quilters have a hard time mastering it. It’s so easy to get stuck and have to cross over stitching lines, or to have your squiggles differ greatly in size. While you may have heard …

This is my best machine quilting trick. It's easy to do and it looks great. I've done it most often on smallish quilts but I've used it on a throw-size quilt, too. I tried it for the first time on this little red quilt, which is a free pattern just for my readers. Such a

You may have read on my last post that I used a serpentine stitch for a few rows on my latest quilt. Over the past few weeks I have on occasion seen that quilters used a serpentine stitch on their quilts and I realized I really like it as an alternative to a straight stitch. Unfortunately all the examples I saw were sewn on Bernina machines. I tried to find the same stitch on my Horizon but only found stitch 19 under the Utilitiy section and although it has the same shape it isn't as nice…
