How does the game fit the theme?
Baking Hazard is a game about infiltrating a dangerous gnome bakery to get biscuits out! We made a one-hit one-kill top-down shooter with fog of war, making for a very risky action game!
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We used multiple royalty free sound effects and a font package from linked sources in the game page and in the end credits of our project.

I like the perspective of the game. It makes it kind of feel like a really silly version of Hotline Miami.
This is honestly a great concept!
I like that the "fog of war" only dissipates in the direction you are looking. That means I have to remember to look around when I walk into a room to make sure I see everything. And it is actually fun to reveal the room by looking around.
It is also nice that the fog of war dissipates slowly over time. It creates suspense, and makes it slightly harder to clear a room.
The game is presented as a quirky and fun game with upbeat music, but I think it could work great as a horror game too. Imagine it had a darker theme, like zombie apocalypse, with eerie background music, and zombie growling sounds. It would be really scary to play thanks to the fog of war!
This is a great jam game - everything is so well done. Good job, everyone.
Such a fun and quirky concept! I really like the idea of mixing bakeries, gnomes, and magic together. The limited vision adds tension and makes every step feel risky. It’s tough but rewarding — one mistake and you’re out, which fits the jam’s spirit perfectly. Great work from the whole team!
Definitely felt the risk! Haha I think the fog of war effect is pretty cool though I think the radius could be bigger. Died a bunch to gnomes popping out of the shadow haha Cool sprites and solid gameplay. Good job!
Fun game. I like how you charge up your bread throws, it's pretty fun to pelt the nasty gnomes with high velocity biscuits. The gnome sprites are also really funny. I especially like the smear frames on death and the flattened death pose. The vision mechanic is also pretty cool and unique.
Very nice game! I did get stuck, however, on the third level between the wall and one of the tables, and I couldn't get out. I liked the vision mechanic. How did you set that up?
We used a tilemap over the game as a fog of war, and used raycasting collisions to toggle the tilemap off when the player looks at it!
The game idea is very creative, I really enjoyed playing it
Hey, cool game! Though it took me a while before I understood how to get started
I really enjoyed playing this game it was really good I especially loved the fog of war effect it reminded me of age of empires and the fog of war effect in that classic title because if you miss even a small area it leaves it as fogged out and to be honest it seems realistic and should stay in game and its perfect as is :D
Rated: 10/10
I hope to see you in the Racookie Heist Jam comments section :D
Really enjoyed the animation visuals and the mechanic of the game! I also really like how the map is in the dark till' the player goes through it cuz I've gotten jumpscared by the gnomes multiple times already HAHA, Only thing I wish it had is maybe a health bar so I don't immediately die from one gnome? Aside from that it was a pretty fun gameplay overall!!
The fog of war is a really interesting mechanic in a game like that. I am curious how that works though. Is it just a ton of colliders and an arc of raycasts from the player to delete them, or did you come up with something more optimized?
It's a tilemap overlaid on the normal map, and the player raycasts out to modify the tilemap. Tilemaps are made to sprawl across a large area, so we tried it out!
Your game is really fun! The animations are funny too, not to mention the theme is really creative! I didn't survive for long, by the way, those gnomes really cheat. :P
Cool game! I had fun fighting those pesky gnomes. I really like the way the bread comes in on the bake them down title screen, looks really cool
Wow the pixel shadow system with shooter game is so unique!
Nice game with art, I particularly like your cover art! At first I didn't know I had to charge the attack somewhat to shoot it so it would be nice to get some indicator. The fog of war is also a nice addition, although I feel that with the one hit mechanic it's quite risky to go for it. Good job on your submission!
Was quite fun! However I feel like it would have been even better with more enemy types
