What an interesting game! One of the few game jam entries where I can actually praise the writing being put on display here, but I love how real you guys were able to make the dialogue of the characters. You were perfectly able to replicate real internet slang that people use, to the point where I felt like I could learn about who a person was after only a few messages from them. I will say, though, that the ending I got was very... abrupt? I definitely feel like I missed something, as by the end, I still wasn't even sure what was really going on. I do wonder how many endings this game has, and I'd be down to check out the game later if you guys decide to add more to the game. Great submission and great game!
thanks so much for playing! will be looking to expand the game post-jam for sure. didn't get to play your game before the rating deadline, sorry, but will check it out soon!!
I really like the visual part of the game and the way you implemented the dialogues. Despite the different personalities of the characters and the many dialogues, there is still an atmosphere of loneliness and anxiety. I think the background music played a major role. Great game!
happy to hear the atmosphere was convincing! thank you for playing and for the comment 🙏🙏
The aesthetic is a huge strong point here! It felt so nostalgic, reminded me of my high school years... I do wish the Mystery had been a little more fleshed out, and I was pretty frustrated trying to click links that didn't open... But on the other hand, that's also part of the charm, flying blind as we don't know what our protagonist is actually thinking or planning. Either way, I enjoyed the ride and I got the two endings :D
thanks for playing! definitely will be looking towards fleshing out the mystery & having proper links. glad that you enjoyed the game nevertheless!!
I'll be keeping an eye out then 👀
Please try out my game call kill or be killed Mario exe game.. And give me a feedback and also rank on it as well.. I pull a lot time and effort on it :)
I Miss The Time When I Would Talk To My Friends Like This. This Game Made Me Really Nostalgic, And I Found The Story To Be Captivating As Well. The Writing Truly Captured The Feeling Of Being On A Forum In The Late 2000s And Early 2010s. I Think The Story Is Very Subtle, I Still Don't Know What Truly Happened, But I Think That Is The Point. Fantastic Entry.
Thanks For The Review!! I'm Glad The Nostalgia Carried Through, Definitely Looking To Flesh Out The Story More So Things Are Just Slightly More Clear. Glad You Enjoyed It!!
This game's aesthetic and general feel are really cool -- it genuinely does read like a bunch of people chatting in forums during the time period it's trying to emulate. The mystery was interesting, though I do feel I may have definitely missed out on a few things.
Either way, I was easily immersed, and I carefully weighed each of my decisions to ensure no one got hurt. This game's just awesome.
thank you for the nice comment, i'm glad it felt authentic!! the mystery wasn't as fleshed out as was planned but i hope you still enjoyed making the choices that were implemented 💜
OOooh! I love me a good internet sleuthing. I ended up speedrunning through the other ending and well–guess phantom was right about one thing. The writing is superb, I got unnecessarily attached to these faceless characters and really did not want to have to make the choice to essentially off them ;;–;;
The internet-speak was also very accurate and I liked the UI as well as the cute art in the background. The music was also lovely and I would love to see this fully fleshed out into a full game or even series! Wonderful work ^^
really happy you enjoyed the writing and characters 💕i do slightly regret we didn't have time to implement more choice beyond just "pick which character next" but i hope it was still an interesting one!
thanks for the continued interest!!
This is one of the most realistic depictions of online social interactions I've ever seen in a media. I know these people, I see them in my own DMs every single day, and I am also one of them. It's like I got transported back in time to my own forum days. This felt so immersive. It's great
Visuals are amazing, reminded me of Va-11hall-a. The option to change/combine music tracks is such a neat little detail
Will be waiting for the updated version for sure
haha really glad that the characters resonated with the right audience! we definitely have plans to flesh out the music system more, we're pretty happy with the mechanic & its potential
thank you for the continued interest too!!
Maybe my favorite game I have played in the entire Jam, and I have only played one ending so far. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for this to become a full game eventually.
The aesthetic of talking in a chat room and the way people speak in this game feels so real. Every character archetype will remind you of someone if you have ever been in chat rooms or forums from that era. All of them really do remind me of people I talked to in real life. (Anyone remember xat.com?) It's so cool how much love and attention to detail is put into the dialogue. The music is great and fits the whole game so well. I really enjoy being able to change it, turn it off, and have different ambience based on my "mood".
The plot is also so interesting, and I love the way it is told. It is very subtle with its mystery. It will not tell you everything outright, but you connect the dots as you play. The choices you get to make feel so personal and have a clear impact on the story. I just cannot stop gushing about this game. As some commenters already mentioned, I would love to be able to click on the links and stuff too. But I love it so much. I cannot wait for more updates. Also, should I play the other route right now or is it better to wait for post jam updates?
ahh 🥺 really happy to hear you enjoyed everything!! and yeah we already implemented functionality for the links, just have to update all the placeholder assets haha
you can go ahead and play for the other branches/second ending if you'd like, they're not fully fleshed out but meant to be playable! post-jam we're not yet 100% on the scope of what we're expanding or how long that'd take. still, thanks for the nice comment & for the interest! looking forward to what you and your team put out in the future too 🙏
this game was all about subtleties — from the layering of the breakcore track depending on mood and current song to the implications of the dialogue — and i loved that a lot! although there might be others that don't lean into the subtleties as much...if anything, i think it might've been a bit too subtle, especially with the text speed and inability to investigate apart from gleaning info from dialogue. but overall i enjoyed this a ton, and would love to immerse myself more in this world you've created. congrats !!
thank you for playing and for the feedback, happy you enjoyed the story & world ✨ could i ask for more details on how you thought the text speed could be improved?
yeah, maybe subtle isn't necessarily the right word to explain my issue with the text, but besides the text scrolling way too fast (even at the slowest setting), i encountered a particular bug where, whenever i tried scrolling up to re-read the text or interact with the text with the mouse in any way, i became unable to click on a dialogue option to further the story
oh interesting! those were issues we thought we fixed by the latest version but maybe we didn't. can i ask if you're on PC or Mac?
thanks again for taking the time for feedback!
for sure, no problem! maybe i was going off of an old build, but i was running it on PC
I really really love this! The choices were plentiful and hard to make, and there were tons of little details in the art and sound designs that imply a level of thoroughness that I don't generally expect out of a week-long jam. The pacing and writing also worked really well; it suddenly started feeling like a mystery game in a way I liked a lot. Great work!!
thank you for appreciating the details 🥺! we had lots of ideas for making the game more expansive but decided to just try to polish up a minimum product in the jam constraint. appreciate the playthrough & for leaving a comment!!
I really enjoyed this game, it hooked me throughout and the cast of characters is so good. They have all distinct moods, typing styles and personalities, they kinda grew on me pretty fast. The side dialogue with the vice chief is also a pretty strong addition. My fav character was synth btw. I do wish one could have done more with the moods, like if they were more distinct and had more usecases, but maybe they did and it's hidden in the code. The feeling of isolation through self inflicted internet is excecuted very well and the chatroom aesthetic really sells it!
really happy you enjoyed the characters! every character has their own separate set of possible moods but we definitely did want to do more with the system if we had more time haha. thanks so much for the feedback!
I loved the story. It was very interesting for a short game. The style really caught my attention.
Great job!
thank you for playing!!!
That was amazing! Really creative way to set up a VN ✨ Enjoyed the character portraits and the general aesthetic of the chat/forum a lot
thanks so much! glad the aesthetic carried through 🙏
Post-QA here! Nice game, really revolutionary for a ren’py to do sideways texting. Little lengthy w/o spamming but it is really short /I can see the time constraint/
Team worked good, nice composing, tempo, visual, character potrayals
I wish you guys all the luck! And would like to see your next game if ever~
thanks for playing & for featuring us on your stream!
Good story with a cool creepy atmosphere. The use of chatspeak didn't get in the way of the engaging writing. I enjoyed it enough to get both endings.
glad you enjoyed it, & thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! <3
Honestly, I have no idea what i just played. It was pretty good though. some moments made me laugh real hard.
thanks again for playing & appreciate the stream!!
Neat spooky visual novel, love the old internet aesthetic.
thank you for playing & for the review!!
Hello! I had the crash with Boomer on Day 4 too and hadn't saved >.< It was really intriguing and well done though but as others have said the text is a bit too fast! Maybe just making it slower and giving the player the option to skip to the next with a click would be good! Anyway really good work :)
looking into the crash but thank you for playing & the comment!
Let me know when its fixed and ill give it another shot 😁
sorry for the wait, crashes should be fixed in our latest version + other bug fixes/improvements!
ill take a look again soon thank you 😊
The story actually felt creepy, even with all the internet speak dialogue. Very well-written. Really liked the character portraits, they seemed to mesh really well with their respective characters. Music is also really nice - sets a good atmosphere.
thanks so much for taking the time to play & review!!
