For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

toe wrap no.2.....

First off....WOW!!! You do like my books!! I am so grateful for all your orders, overwhelmed actually, lost for words, blown away, thankyou! If you ordered before 9 am this morning then they are posted, on their way, at the mercy of Royal Mail. Any orders after that and they will be sent on monday.
Now then, toe wrap number two. No particular reason for making this other than I am so in love with the first one that I think I will have another. A bit like kids I suppose. When I had my little girl I was worried I would never love anyone else as much ever...then I had my son and hey presto, same amount of love so I figure the same goes for toe wraps don't you.
So far I have managed a tiny bit of embroidery on broderie anglaise. The fabric peeping out from the holes I cut is the one with the birds on that I bought at the show, do you remember? This wrap will be made with completely different cloth, no gingham, some checked stuff but not actually gingham. Some stripes will find their way into it and of course there will still be white. Oh and my favourite cotton lawn will most likely get another airing too, watch this space. As for the first one, still waiting for me to get off my backside and buy the gingham for the back...should be sorted before tomorrow night fingers crossed.
I have had the decorator in this week. Remember the hole in my wall before christmas? Well the hole was fixed and allowed to dry out and now it's being titivated. I think I have remained remarkably calm considering my house has been upside down for days, stuff out of said room spread over the whole house, not mentioned it on here once until now. The reason it's mentioned now? He will be finished in about an hour, YAY!! House back, tidy up, move furniture, normality.....big sigh of relief.....
