For centuries women have used cloth as a tool of comfort and as an expression of beauty within their homes. Creating cloth for warmth, cloth for shelter, our female predecessors embellished these linens with hand stitch using laborious and time consuming techniques thereby enhancing the functional beauty of objects which enveloped and protected their families. Inspired by these women I hope my creations pay tribute to and recognise the devotion expressed in cloth by our female ancestors .

''the use of traditional often time consuming process alludes to the devotion of a mother''. c K. A. Ruane 2007

progress....

My white cloth for class is taking shape. I am managing to make a little progress on my surface embellishment although there is still quite a bit to do. I am making this one for my mum and I asked her for some cloth to include which holds special memories for her...she gave me two very dark patterned handkerchiefs...now there's a challenge, incorporating those into a white on white cloth. Still, I won't be beaten, plans are forming, ideas bursting forth...watch this space.....
also, don't forget the give away...just leave a comment here and your name will go in the hat...no deadline, I am nowhere near organised enough for any of that kind of competence!!

the start......and a give away reminder.

This is probably the first part of my next white cloth. The white cloth that I will make with my class starting in January. Why start it now? Well it's only small, I would like to be slightly ahead and also tomorrow I am being featured here, very exciting but I won't be home to post and I wanted to leave them something special to look at. I wanted to leave something ''me'' here if you know what I mean.
On Tuesday I will have an announcement too. It is very exciting and will require quite a bit of effort on my part but I am hoping it will be worth it. I will let you know about that with links and huge fonts on the day....
Don't forget my give away either, it's here. All I can say is I am overwhelmed. I didn't realise there was a world dish rag shortage....maybe someone should tell the UN! It has sparked a little light in my brain too, a 'needle doodling'' class. What do you think? Anyway, if you want a chance to win then please leave a comment on that post and not this one as I will get confused...and you know it doesn't take much to confuse me...you can comment on this one too if you want..entirely up to you.
My daughter is here but not here. She has gone out with her Dad, her Brother and the lovely Richard who is her other half, hence I have computer time. Tomorrow we go ''up north'' to visit Grandparents and new babies......we will eat a lot of cake!!
