DEEE LOVELY: Psychedelic Revival

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The iconic group Deee-Lite was not only known for their eclectic house music, but also for their outlandish style that spanned over several decades. Their 60s-meets-70s-meets-90s approach helped to make them one of the most easily recognizable groups; I mean who could forget those Fluevogs?

Below are some outfits put together out of select Kokorokoko pieces inspired by the style of Deee-Lite, Lady Miss Kier, DJ Towa Tei and DJ Dmitri. A strong focus was put on psychadelic horizontal stripes, bright, mismatching colors and over sized 70s sunglasses. Key brands here: John Fluevog, Serious, JNCO, Fubu and Marina Fini jewelry.

Daisy Chain

Between 1989 and 1994 there was a hippy revival ignited by the 20th anniversary of the Woodstock festival and the Summer of Love as well as the election of the first Democratic president in over a decade. Psychedelic color schemes, flower power motifs and loose fitting pattered clothing became ubiquitous. Rock and pop acts as well as hip hop groups saw a "free love" style revolution that united them and encouraged cross pollination of styles and genres.  As rave culture went mainstream the hippy style morphed, becoming over-sized and cartoonish.
We have some really great examples of 90s hippy revival style in a Kokorokoko right now:

This dayglo maxi dress is available in our ONLINE SHOP . The beaded peace sign necklace and 80s plastic charm necklaces are available at our Milwaukee Ave location

Prada's SS13 kitschy daisy motif is a great update of the 90s flower power style. The vintage version is avaible at our shop and is from the Limited and features a plastic daisy on the chest and mock neck.

Inspirational Movie :Liquid Sky

I will never forget the first time I watched Liquid Sky . The colors and costumes were just to my taste and the plot was so strange, I had to watch it twice just to take it all in. The soundtrack is killer. The super saturated colors and new wave angles are a constant inspiration at Kokorokoko. We usually have several pieces that would make the cut for the fashion show near the end of the film.
Pale pink and metallic sculptural heels or a hot pink mesh jumpsuit. Both available in our online shop.

Amazing pair of asymmetrical black and white glasses from the 1980s.
Bold colors in these vintage Bruno Magli heels.
Ungaro always got it right in the 80s. This perfectly purple oversize wool blazer or pink and black asymmetrical dress could be worn by Margaret in the night club. Check our shop for more hot 80s finds and check out Liquid Sky for a dose of alien inspiration.

...And let's not forget the 90s Rave era shop Liquid Sky in New York. Check out this time capsule:
