Greek label Kraak bring us the debut album from The Monk, about whom we can tell you nothing except that he's not the New York funk/soul band of the same name! Instead, 'Horns' operates largely in downtempo, Balearic and trip-hop territory, though opener 'Waves' bucks the trend in that regard with a D&B-inspired backbeat underpinning all the synth washes and disembodied vocal fragments. Speaking of which, the album features no fewer than five different vocalists across its seven tracks, but don't come looking for girls'-night-out singalongs here... instead, 'Horns' is an album that'll appeal to fans of avant-pop artists like Bjork, Cocteau Twins, Billie Ray Martin or even Dead Can Dance.
