Now maybe we're getting somewhere...
Let's be real for a moment, I don't believe that anyone who grew up watching Digimon and imagined what a third volume would look and feel like would have ever wanted what we've gotten so far. I admire the attempt to create a more mature experience to match its grown audience, but slowing everything down to a crawl is not the answer, at least not unless they can balance that more deliberate pace with the sense of adventure that is at the franchise's core (literally, it's in the title).
The first two films did not achieve that sense of adventure, settling instead for piecemeal nostalgia pandering and the clumsy integration of 'adult' themes. It's…
Now we’re cooking. That Patamon scene was absolutely crushing and the character stuff is great all around, but this still loses half a star for the horrific music choices. Literally how can you make digivolutions this boring.
Okay, hear me out, this is what makes a perfect Digimon movie. It was deeply reflective of the relationships between the Digimon and their digidestined and once again, highlighted characters besides Tai. The action was also incredible and I almost wish this concluded the series, until we got the Digital World and the Gennai reveal. I am scared of what follows because I have heard it is weaker, but I am excited. This makes me want to rewatch every Digimon movie before this.
So, this was just 90 minutes of pain, huh?
Did we really have to go through ALL of this? Because I didn’t need to deal with all of these emotions...
"T.K.... if I go bezerk, you'll have to take me down... Just listen, I'm okay with it. Whatever happens, it was worth meeting you."
Easily the best entry of the Digimon Adventure tri. movies. I mean, here we go!— finally, some meaningful development! Although I think the stuff with Joe and Mimi was pretty inconsequential, being that it was brushed aside so easily. [Insert Joe going, "It's like I Joe-volved into mega!"] There was a quick line of dialogue where the background female class members mention that they wish they wore the outfit Meiko and Mimi, which pretty much throws out Mimi's character development from the last film if they are all now just going to agree with Mimi. However,…
I like how an anime from my childhood is now talking about letting go of that part of your life, just makes the nostalgia sting all that bit more
I was not prepared for this, what a tear-jerker. the long build-up paid off, this one hit hard in the feels. and the story is not over yet!
This was the best one yet!!
This had so much heart mixed in with well paced action. Really brought me back to memories of lost pets or last days spent with a friend before moving away.
There's some clever (if not on-the-nose) use of the word reboot.
This had a great cliff hanger for the future movies, but still felt like it's own contained story as well.
