EVO 2014 is the 2014 installment of Evolution, the annual world fighting game championships. For the second straight year, Super Smash Bros. Melee was featured as a main stage game alongside Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, Injustice: Gods Among Us and Killer Instinct as the event moved to the Westgate Las Vegas Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Format

[edit]

The Tournament is divided into 3 stages: Qualification Pools, Semi-final Bracket, and Tournament Finals. All of which are a form of a double elimination bracket of which any losses are carried over from one stage to the other. After 2 match losses, the player is eliminated from the tournament.

Qualification Pools

  • All players are divided into pools 8 or more
  • Double Elimination Bracket
  • All matches are best of 3
  • Top 2 players from each pool advance to the Semi-final Bracket: 1 to the Winner side, 1 to the Loser Side
    • Losses are Carried over

Semi-Final Bracket/Tournament Finals

  • Double Elimination Bracket
  • Finals Bracket is when only 8 players remain.
  • Winners Finals, Losers Finals, and Grand Finals are best of 5. All other matches are best of 3.[1]
