Some folks very kindly put up a French version of the blorb principles.

Tribe 8 goes Forged in the Dark.

Interesting! While I like Silhouette better than Forged in the Dark, the latter is a similar system that’s also really good. Also interested in how they’ll handle the setting. The original edition’s metaplot disposition was not great and was really challenging to run. Maybe a more structured game will be a good fit.

I searched for blorb in the XXIIVV Lieu instance to see if it had updated its index yet, it hadn’t but I found this charming game.

Legends of Anglerre was a licensed game but this is the spiritual successor.

Unfortunately, it’s made more lethal than Fate although that seems to be in optional dials. Also they brought back the dumb d6-d6 from Anglerre (unlike Mindjammer which used Fate dice). Dumb because just use 2d6 instead for a much more straightforward way to get the exact same curve! (Add seven to the difficulty for unopposed rolls.) + Crits and fumbles. 🤔

Oh I didn’t realize how good the ORC license actually is.

No more “this entire book is Product Identity”. The default is all crunch copylefted (strongly copylefted rather than permissive) and all fluff is reserved (proprietary😰). Licensors can designate some or all of the fluff as copylefted but they can’t proprietarize the crunch!

Punasiirtymän betaversio on saatavana ilmaisena PDF-tiedostona.

From a character POV I’ve always considered this to be moving from “trying to win” and conflict toward “trying to minimize the fallout from losing a conflict” which is something i think makes sense from a character POV. Retreat versus Rout.

This is gold and really helps me get part of the way. Thank you.♥︎

I guess the big blorb change here is that characters have to explain what their goal is not just what they do (and make some attempt to understand their adversary). If you skip that part then the wheels fall off later

FWIW, Fate Condensed phrasing of the same rules are a li’l more explicitly negotiationy.

That still doesn’t get me all the way to grokville unfortunately. I’m kinda dense about this stuff!

The number one difficultest thing in Fate for me to wrap my blorb head around is concessions.

It’s too author stance and therefore completely alien to the way I think. I want to get into this game and the decreased lethality and incresed agency around consequences is a main reason for that so I don’t want to leave the rule out. I just want to “translate it to characterese” from playerese.

Love Critical Role poking fun of how difficult their own campaign 3 is to understand with a li’l spelling bee.

Fun fun fun♥︎

Dwiz (is that someone from S-G or WRNU? They seemed to have a rock solid grasp on my mighty works) also linked to.

Great! Similar vibes to my own “riss” except I wrote RISS before I became a good writer and it shows.

I’ve been sleeping on Strange Stars.

I have so many Stars Without Numbers books, and this is a different setting for it that I like much more but still would let me use all of those rule books like Suns of Gold, Skyward Steel, Polychrome, Persons of Interest, Darkness Visible.

In linguistics, we have “open and closed wordclasses”. The exact same thing exist in ludemes for game design but I don’t known the word for it. Alex lists some examples for D&D style games in this post:

The Milliwhack metric for campaign lethality. I’ve lost track. What usually happens with D&D is that the lethality is higher in the lower levels of the campaign. Which is pretty appropriate & good design 🤷🏻‍♀️
