Interesting project! I need to see how its privacy settings are, more deeply, but the concept is really nice.

I think it’s relatively well known among people I talk with that blurring text isnt effective at preventing people from finding out what it said. But do they know this is also true of pixalization?

This is primarily why I don’t advocate for Bluesky as anything but a “if you really must have literally twitter but not twitter”. Mastodon and the Fediverse is actually not centralized! How inviting of hope.

This is a great write-up on how wider and more consistent applications of metadata could be used, abused, neglected, and how ultimately all and none of this ended up happening.

It’s an interesting and prescient time capsule coming from 2001.

This is something I’ll have to keep in mind if I ever build the static site of my dreams…

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I’VE COME TO HATE JAVASCRIPT SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR JAVASCRIPT AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. HATE. HATE.

This is someone who I am an acquaintance of. Somehow, I’m actually rather surprised they live in Russia!

A lot of services are hard to access in Russia, and require VPNs. However, it seems as though the VPNs are also quite hard to access now?

This is some really good advice! And it also doubles as being a capsule for all sorts of web-related history.

This has a really convenient csv with all the available formats, etc.

I’m really, really tempted to create a SPLADE vectorization database of these textbooks. Especially in the context of Google search so heavily deteriorating.

Sad times. I think the move forward is curated search engines, but the Open Source community hasn’t budged much from YacY irt decentralized/federated search engines.

Ugh, I wish messaging apps supported SVG format.

Think: Instead of using OCR you could simply select from the underlying text!

You could also press the links, etc.

SVGs are also just significantly smaller than images in size, anyhow.

I know there are security concerns, but I’m sure that’s a solvable problem with an intentionally limited subset of the SVG format, or such.
