One thing that’s not clear in this Wikipedia page is that this July 9th law also “legalized fusion” (or rather, reclassified fusion as particle accelerators rather than as fission reactors, so now fusion plants fall under a separate, more accessible regulatory framework).

A 2012 study found that wind projects kill 0.269 birds per gigawatt-hour of electricity produced, compared to 5.18 birds killed per gigawatt-hour of electricity from fossil fuel projects.

According to psychologists, one of the main problems with authority is that it makes us less sympathetic to the concerns and emotions of others. For instance, several studies have found that people in positions of authority are more likely to rely on stereotypes and generalizations when judging other people. They also spend much less time making eye contact, at least when a person without power is talking. …That’s because power quickly turns us into hypocrites. …The dynamics of power can profoundly influence how we think. When we climb the ladder of status, our inner arguments get warped and our natural sympathy for others is vanquished. Instead of fretting about the effects of our actions, we just go ahead and act. We deserve what we want. And how dare they resist. Don’t they know who we are?

How to stimulate it in a way that supports economic growth without - and let’s make an assumption here - triggering a new Angry Brigade, Weather Underground or Symbionese Liberation Army - nihilists who run counter to the consensus that neo-liberal markets and politicians require?

Throughout this year I’ve devoted substantial attention to WikiLeaks, particularly in the last four weeks as calls for its destruction intensified. To understand why I’ve done so, and to see what motivates the increasing devotion of the U.S. Government and those influenced by it to destroying that organization, it’s well worth reviewing exactly what WikiLeaks exposed to the world just in the last year: the breadth of the corruption, deceit, brutality and criminality on the part of the world’s most powerful factions.
