Amy Diane Violette was born on November 9, 1985, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Vicki Violette, an elementary school teacher, and John Violette, an environmentalist with the Knox County Health Department. After spending her first 18 years in Knoxville, she moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University, later working for WORD Records, a division of Warner Bros. Records, and Gaylord Entertainment’s historic Ryman Auditorium. She eventually relocated to Waco, Texas, where she earned her graduate degree at Baylor University.
In 2012, Amy’s life took an unexpected turn when she became the survivor of a clergy sexual assault scandal. After pursuing legal action, she began writing publicly about her experience on a personal blog that went on to win "WordPress Blog of the Day" three times. Seeking healing and clarity, she moved to the high desert of New Mexico, where she found solace among a community of Benedictine monks. She often credits her time in New Mexico with giving her the strength to complete her master’s degree, become ordained, and serve as a college professor.
Everything shifted again in 2016 when she worked as a background actor on the Netflix limited series Godless. Cast in a scene opposite Michelle Dockery, she spent the day filming an emotional river crossing sequence that ultimately made the final cut. That day on set-and a memorable lunch conversation with Dockery-sparked an unexpected revelation: a calling to pursue a career in film.
Since then, Amy has worked as an actor or crew member on more than 35 productions. Some of her favorite credits include Godless (2016), Dark Winds (2022), The Lost Bus (2025), Nashville (2016-2017), The Vampire Diaries (2016), Still the King (2016), Big Sky (2022), Rattlesnake (2019), and Road Less Traveled (2016).
In 2023, Amy founded 3 Horse Productions in Santa Fe, New Mexico, followed by 3 Horse Studios in Culver City, California, in 2025. As a producer, she develops original series and films centered on complex, resilient female leads-often inspired by the remarkable women she has encountered throughout her life.
Her original series Women of a Certain Age is in development.
