Born on September 22, 1999 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, José Juan Macías Guzmán plays professional football as a striker for one of the most legendary teams in Mexico, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, also known as Chivas. Born into wealth as the son of Olivia Guzmán and Juan Macías Vázquez, one of Mexico's notable oil entrepreneurs, José Juan worked his way through Chivas of Guadalajara's youth academy as a homegrown player. José Juan became part of the Chivas organization since the age of five and was called up to the first team by former Chivas head coach Matias Almeyda at 17 years of age. An unexpected loan transfer from Chivas to Club León proved to be exactly what José Juan needed to establish himself as one of Liga MX's best forwards. José Juan, also known as JJ, was the top Mexican goal-scorer in Liga MX in 2019 at loan with León. This high-scoring impetus in 2019 catapulted him to be called up and play with the Mexican National Team led by Gerardo Martino. In five appearances with the National Team, JJ scored four goals. After León did not follow through with the purchase option for 15 million dollars, JJ returned to Chivas, the team that molded him and saw him grow as a professional football player.
