This episode shows what genuinely creative comedy writing can get you, thanks to Joseph Bonaduce (father of Danny), behind dozens of sitcoms like THAT GIRL and GOOD TIMES.
Plain and simple. It's all FAKE. Alan Brady wants to make a tv documentary about his life -- what a LOVABLE guy he is and how he mixes in with everybody? Are you laughing already? Some truth to this story, due to the fact there are a "choice few" personalities (even today!) who are totally different people once the camera starts and stops.
Comes the mix-up. Alan wants to film the party of parties at Rob's house, however they're going to Jerry and Millie's anniversary party next door. Then why not have Alan join THEM -- and make it look like it's for him? What nerve! However, as you can guess, Rob and Laura have no choice. Welcome to the Alan Brady LOVE FEST?
One thing; Millie demands equal time to impress her cousin Blanche (wacky scene stealer Joyce Jameson) and her husband, Hi, played by dancer Lou Wills, Jr. Watch the festivities, something for all us DVD fans. Considering the talent, must see tv insanity.
SEASON 5 EPISODE 25 remastered CBS dvd box set. The entire series is available on blu ray in a beautiful box. Thank you to CATCHY TV and METV for the memories.

Alan Brady is working on a documentary about his life. Not surprisingly, it's all hogwash...filled with material that will make him look great but which isn't the real Alan. As part of this scheme, Alan wants to show that he's a 'regular guy' and tells Rob that he must invite him over for coffee with the family. Rob agrees (after all, what choice does he have?) but Laura then reminds him that the night in question, they are having an anniversary party for the Helpers. When Rob tells Alan, Alan invites himself to the party...and then begins to make it clear the party is really for him! Oddly, Millie is so excited about having a star at her party, she agrees to all of Alan's ridiculous demands.
There really isn't much more to this...Alan shows up and behaves like a boorish jerk. Not a lot of depth or story in this one...but it is moderately enjoyable nevertheless.
