"Homicide: DR-06" was one of the lighter episodes of "Dragnet 1969"

There was a previous episode of "Dragnet" in which Joe spends time at Bill's house as neighbors keep pestering Bill about this and that. So in this one, Joe has Bill and his wife over for steaks. He's also expecting a lady friend but she never shows up. Instead, a female from another apartment room complains about some new neighbors having a party. Joe says he can't do anything since it's not yet 10. I'll stop there and just say this was quite funny what goes on here especially near the end. Yes, there's still some plot about some criminals doing something wrong but it doesn't dominate like it didn't the previous time when Joe was at Bill's. I'll just now say "Homicide: DR-06" was a fun ep of "Dragnet 1969".

A followup to "The Big Neighbor".

In many ways, this episode from season 3 is like a followup to Season 2, Episode 5: "The Big Neighbor". In "The Big Neighbor", Joe goes to Bill's house on an off day to watch a football game. And, because of constant interruptions from neighbors, they never really got to see much of the game. In this episode, Joe invites the Gannons to his apartment for a cookout with his girlfriend. But, like this previous episode, again and again things seem to conspire to ruin the evening--things at work, Friday's lady friend coming late and problems with the neighbors. It just goes to show you that a cop's job is never done! It's all very mundane but at least gives you an idea of what life is like if you work for the police department. Not a must-see, but an example of the sorts of unusual episodes that began to appear more and more frequently following the first season.

When entering the laundry room Friday and Gannon, guns drawn, have their fingers on the triggers. This is a major safety violation and wouldn't be made by officers trained in the proper use of firearms.

      Sergeant Joe Friday: What's that?

Officer Bill Gannon: No matter what time a woman says she'll be somewhere, automatically add twenty minutes.

Sergeant Joe Friday: Is that right?
