The One with the Ball

This feels a bit like a padding episode to me - killing time merrily before we get to the series finale.

The 'ball' and 'Rachel's cat' plots work, just about.

Neither Gary or the actor that played him (Michael Rapaport) have worked for me during their very brief (but too long!) arc on the show, but surely they could've worked out a better ending for him than that?! Not the show at its best.

The episode aired exactly five years before the series finale. Numerically, this episode also marks the halfway point in the series, being the 118th out of the 236 episodes.

Goofs
During one of the ball throwing scenes Ross mentions a mesozoic mastodon. The mesozoic is a geological era from 250-65 million years ago. Mastodons however only appeared from 20 million years to 11.000 years ago, the statement is thus a serious factual error coming from a paleontologist.
