I did not expect that.
Alright, so I'll admit it, it's a little syrupy, I was expecting world domination and torment, instead I got something that made me feel a little gooey inside, but I loved it, so original, and totally unexpected.
It's such a contrast to the first episode, it really did blindside me, not the path I was expecting it to take, but still intelligent sci fi drama, and a story that implies that not every alien intervention brings malicious intent.
Nicely acted once again, and some impressive set designs.
Very good indeed.
9/10.
An amazing, thoughtful and beautiful episode--even if you only watch Part Two.
This episode was so good in so many ways. Instead of the typical malevolent aliens, this episode is a sharp contrast--and offers a different sort of alien invasion scenario. Intelligent, very touching and DIFFERENT--and I really liked that. My one gripe, by the way, is not a serious one. Back in 1964, the expression 'deaf and dumb' was quite acceptable. As a father of a deaf daughter, I encourage you simply to use the word 'deaf'--it's much more accurate and not especially cruel. I also liked how the kids in the show were not all white kids--a nice subtle way of saying such things are unimportant to superior beings! black and white kids
The flip side of S1
Supposedly, writer Seeleg Lester was at work when he noticed one of the production secretaries typing the script and crying. She turned to him and said "This is the most beautiful thing I ever read."
S1 was filled with gothic grotesques, S2 was more straightforward SF. But who's to say that there wasn't a little room in the series for this story, where magic settled for a moment, wonder touched a few lives, and a few odd pieces fell smoothly into the jigsaw of creation?
One of my favorites!!!
Splendid mix of suppressed, quiet terror, humanity and humility wrapped up good and tight. The normal, safe small town continuously draws you in and the true terror only hits you when the writer reveals this is no Mayberry. Those that didn't get it, will never understand why this is so good!!
Touching and uplifting
"The Inheritors are on their way. In a universe of billions of stars, there are places of love and happiness. On this earth, in this spot, magic settled for a moment, wonder touched a few lives, and a few odd pieces fell smoothly into the jigsaw of creation. "
