    My favorite episode

This is my favorite episode! Margaret is a competent, level-headed, equal colleague. Charles becomes human. This episode could never be done in the Frank Burns/Hot Lips era.

My favorite part is Charles speaking to Donna as a fellow human being, with intelligence and humor. No accusations, no condescendion, just him trying to find out what he's gotten himself into. Just lovely! And the joke about the Charles River is very good.

The other plot could have been a whole episode by itself. It is well-written and well-acted and just what I expect of a later season M*A*S*H plotline. Highly recommended.

    Charles Sows His Wild Oats

Winchester returns from a conference, obviously having overdone it. He has no recollection of his activities, but there is evidence he was involved with a woman in some way. The guys find a couple rolls of film and decide to have it developed. Also, there is an epidemic of Korean Hemorrhagic Fever. This is a disease which shuts down the kidneys and a loss of sodium and potassium. Patients literally drown in their own fluids. The doctors come up with a possible solution.

Back to the other plot: When the pictures are developed, it appears that Charles has married someone, and low and behold, an attractive woman from the Red Cross arrives in camp. The "marriage" had some interesting implications. The final scene is great fun this time.

    Among the best

This episode and the one following, Yalu Brick Road, are two favorites. Charles is magnificent. MASH is a rarity in that every time they added new cast members they just improved. BJ and Charles were both amazing. Not only were the characters they portrayed remarkable but the actors portraying them perfect. BJ was not only up to Harkeye's challenge but often surpassed him. And Major Charles Winchester III showed, from his first appearance, that he was equal to their antics. Colonel Potter was an unforgettable character. Harry Morgan was incredible in the part. He should have won more than one Emmy for the role,

Is that a Texas Rangers Hat?

The hat Klinger is wearing looks like a Texas Rangers hat. If so, this is a major goof as the Rangers didn't come into existence until 1961, 8 years after the Korean War ended.

    • Trivia
This is the second episode to deal with Korean Hemorrhagic Fever. The first was "Soldier of the Month" (1975), where Frank Burns comes down with the illness. While given a much lighter treatment than in this installment, the previous episode featured a card at its close that gave a brief history on the real disease, which was indeed diagnosed during the actual Korean War.
    • Goofs
Col. Potter says that the punishment for disobeying the medical directive regarding hemorrhagic fever is dishonorable discharge, however an officer cannot receive a DD, only enlisted personnel.
    • Quotes

Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt: Do you, Chuck Emerson Winchester III, take this lovely, if gullible, young woman as your unlawful unwedded unwife?

      Maj. Charles Winchester: I undo.

Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt: And do you, Donna Marie Parker Winchester III, take this pickled amnesiac as your unlawful unwedded unhubby?

Donna Marie Parker: I undo, too.

Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt: Then by the power invested in me by the state of intoxication, I pronounce you man and woman. You may now ignore the bride!
