    The Luke Grant story

Luke Grant is found wandering the desert with one wish on his mind - kill me. Turned over to the wagon train by some friendly Mojave Indians, they slowly discover his identity and that there are Apaches on the war path and nearby.

Shortly afterwards, a wagon with five women in it asks to join the train for a short distance for protection. They are a singing troop. The leader of the group, Victoria, tells Flint they were told Apaches may be in the area on the warpath. Later, she thinks recognizes Luke who slowly recovers but has no desire to live.

One day, the train are trapped in the camp with the Apaches near them. While outside the ring of wagons, Victoria is kidnapped by the Apaches. She has told Flint she and Luke were to be married but when she he needed one more year of singing school, Luke married another woman.

Luke asks to go with Flint to see if they can rescue Vitoria but the odds are against them although Flint notices the Apaches are acting strange. Luke tells Flint about him and Victoria and that his wife left him followed by losing his church.

Will Luke get Victoria back? You will have to watch this watchable and interesting episode featuring gals singing hymns, Apaches on the warpath, and a depressed man who was a member of the flock - it's a faith based episode and ends quite positively.

The Almighty moves in mysterious ways

Donald Woods plays an aimless wanderer in the west whom some friendly Indians picked up and gave to Robert Horton who brought him back to the Wagon Train. Woods is out of his mind with heat stroke, shouting for the Indians to put him out of his misery. The friendly Indians tell Flint McCullough there are some unfriendly ones on the way and a lot of them.

Traveling with the Wagon Train are also a troupe of singers and their leader Joan O'Brien and Woods and O'Brien have some history. He could have married her, but married another and she ran off with the proverbial traveling salesman. For his pain the church defrocked him because of the scandal. Woods is not crazy about religion any longer.

Woods who briefly was a lead in A budget films, but never really had the charisma of a leading man turns in a fine performance as a man who's lost his faith in the Almighty and in his fellow human beings. This was the height of Joan O'Brien's career at this time. The same year she was in The Alamo with John Wayne and soon would be co-starring with such folks as Cary Grant and Elvis Presley. We get a musical treat with O'Brien and her troupe singing some period music.

Everything turns out all right in this faith based story showing God does move in mysterious ways his wonders to perform.
