The Simpsons don't get much better than this

This has to be one of my favorite episodes. It is from season 6 where the show was really firing on all cylinders.

As you can guess from its title this is another vacation episode where surprise surprise they go to Itchy & Scratchy Land. There are a lot of parodies in this one including Jurasice Park, West World, and The Birds. Itchy & Scratchy Land itself parodies Disney World and Pleasure Island. Lots of classic scenes makes this episode a must see for any Simpsons fan(even though by now I don't think there are any that haven't seen this episode at least a dozen times).

So if you haven't seen this episode yet do yourself a favor and buy Season 6 on DVD.

    Your older, balder, fatter son

The Simpsons go to Itchy & Scratchy Land.

This is a classic episode with some great parody and memorable moments.

The best aspect is the Disneyland parody which takes a number of humorous swipes that the park. My favourites include the Itchy & Scratchy money, New Year's Eve, Homer's and Bart's interaction with the costumed characters and the tightly controlled nature of the park.

When things go wrong at the park, it's part of an ongoing Michael Crichton tribute throughout the episode. If you are a fan of Westworld and Jurassic Park you should love these moments. There are other strong movie tributes such as Fantasia and Pinocchio, which for me are two of the funniest Itchy & Scratchy sketches ever produced. I also enjoyed The Birds spoof with Hans Moleman.

Plenty of Violence to Go Around

Bart and Lisa con the folks into going to Itchy and Scratchy Land for a vacation. Of course, Marge balks at it, but the rest soon have their way. Once there, we get to see the theme park from hell. I loved the marching robots. The show takes a cue from Jurassic Park and other horror epics.

    Simpsons peak

One of the finest Simpsons episodes ever for sure. For me Simpsons peak is the first 10 seasons for sure, and Itchy & Scratchy Land represents one of the peak episodes. I laugh even still to this day thinking about the hilarious and satirical scenes in this episode that ranks as one of the finest.

    • Trivia
At the time that the episode was produced, new, more stringent censorship laws had been put in place. As a result, the Fox network tried to stop the writers from including Itchy & Scratchy cartoons in episodes. In response, the writers created this episode, which they decided would be as violent as possible. The network threatened that if the episode was produced, they would cut the Itchy & Scratchy parts out themselves, but relented when David Mirkin threatened to tell the media. The writers nevertheless promised to try not to overdo the violence.
    • Goofs
In 'Itchy and Scratchy Land', Cletus takes a picture of one of the robots at the parade, the old lady next to him changes from black to white between shots.

Park Announcer: Attention, Marge Simpson. Your son has been arrested.

Woman: I'd be terribly embarrassed if I was that boy's mother.

    • Alternate versions
The Season 6 episode "Itchy and Scratchy Land" was heavily censored in Australia, and was not shown in full until 1999. Shots cut included crowds laughing as blood poured over them, Bart smashing a second camera shop window and several cut scenes from when The Simpsons take the 'Log Ride'. About a dozen censored scenes reduced the running time of the episode by two minutes down to 21 minutes.
