The Embers is a serious short movie. A young woman is waiting for her husband who is a soldier coming back from world war. She worries him until her mind become funny. Therefore she watches hallucinations that he is killed by an Asian enemy again and again. She sends uneasy days.
I like this story. This describes change of human mind by the war and the figure of suffering woman from the feelings she can not control. The pictures are very realistic. It tells us the horror of war. However, the pictures are slightly fierce for me. The dishes she uses are good thing but not brand-new. It expresses that era which is not rich at all.
Anybody do not watch this movie without thinking about war. It is a very nice. This movie is very wonderful because this includes that important things in only 12 minutes. I really think that this story is constructed well.

"Ember" means "a piece of firewood that is not completely burned out yet". However, this film is not the story of fireplace. It is a story of after World WarⅡ. The leading part of this film is a New Zealand woman waiting for return of her husband from the front. She waits for her husband to come home in intense cold. She has the nightmare in which her husband is tortured by Japanese soldier over and over. After a long time, her husband returns from war. However, although they could meet again, there is a deep rift between the wife and husband because of a certain reason. The film begins with a quiet scene and ends with a quiet scene. There are many small items used in this film impressively. They are from small pieces of a broken cup to big blade of ax and katana. They may be the symbol of violence or the mind of human.
During war time, a woman waits for her husband in a cabin in the deep woods alone. She bears the absence of her husband in front of people, but her heart is torn for her supposedly dead partner, agonizing how he was suffered at his last, and she starts to see nightmares. However, when it turns out that her husband has actually been alive, true nightmare begins to afflict her.
When I watch this film, my first impression was "shocking." It is not any sort of documentary film but it certainly depicts a fear of war. I cannot forget the Japanese soldier's glaring eyes, staring straight at the protagonist. I ultimately shared the same fear as she feels about the war theater and anxiety for her husband's life. During these scenes, my heart beat faster and faster, and the scenes were even intensified by being shot in the darkness, which inflamed terror in me.

This is a story during World War Ⅱ. In New Zealand, a woman lives in a small house in the cold winter. She waits for her husband who have been to the battlefield. She often has a strange dream. The dream is a scene a Japanese soldier tries to kill her husband. It is terrible for her and she comes to worry about her husband more. However, he suddenly comes back to her. I imaged that they would hug each other and be delighted with their reunion, therefore I felt strange. Then she finds a human ear in the his bag, and of course, she is surprised. However, he is calm.
It takes courage for me to watch a movie about war. Because I have never experience war, it is scary for me. This is a short film, however, this expresses the tragedy of war well. I think that there may have been women like this one not only in New Zealand, but also in Japan. This is a sad story, but we should watch such movies.

The story is about a wife who lives in remote house in winter, waiting her
husband to return from the World War II. She has a bad dream about her
husband that keep bothering her. But after his return, she has a new fear.
The movie has only three characters, but most of the film focus on the
life of housewife. We can basically understand what is she worrying according
to her hallucinate and the way that the movie try to present her husband's
photos. There is some dialogue at the beginning and around the ending of the
film, which is really hard to understand because of the accent. But it is not that
important to the main plot since most of them are being told by visual story
telling.
I think the main message that the movie want to show is at the end of the
movie, portrait from the real situation after soldier return home after the war.
Most of them have changed. The movie shows concrete situation that may
happen to many household in the war era. Which I think tis is a strong point of
this movie.
