One of the Funniest Off-beat Episodes

On average, the writers create an episode I consider to be a "one-off" or "off-beat" type of episodes. Sure, there is still at least one murder to be solved and the CSIs approach the situation in their normal serious approach. Helps break things up a bit.

However, this episode stands out for plenty of reasons. The boxer named "Morales" is not the biggest guy involved, but as a boxer, he never gives up and continues to train hoping to someday win one of his bouts. Morales is also a bit crude and not the most likable guy.

Adding to the situation is Coroner/M. E. Doc Robinson. Each time a CSI team says they're pretty sure they've figured out who and what killed Morales, the Doctor may initially agree with their hypothesis, but his next line would be "that isn't what killed him". Once they're finally able to put all the pieces together and see the big picture, it's clear that while what Doc Robinson told each CSI was correct, so were they!? Catherine makes an observation part way through the episode that turned out to be pretty accurate.. and funny.

I've been watching a CSI marathon on Hulu. This is our favorite episode of the whole series.

    She's grown up

(No real spoiler but hints at the direction of the episode.)

I have to agree with the statements that that this was one of the best episodes this season. The constant redirection, the outrageous things done to the boxer, not to mention the whole "boxer trains at a brothel" idea are some of the most creative of the season.

I really like the continuity of this season. Events and plot lines from previous episodes affect the characters as the season progresses. But every once in a while, you just have to have fun and break away from the formula. It allows both the writers and the actors some freedom from having to continue to answer questions from previous episodes, while still allowing consistent character development.

But, to my summary. I wondered where I had seen the actress playing one of the "pleasure providers." I realized she was the daughter in "What Women Want." She has really grown up.

EDIT: I just realized where I had seen Doris Babinkian (the "madam"): Sister Mary Robert from the Sister Act movies. Talk about growing up.....

    bad day for a boxer

This was probably one of the best in a long time. I like the miniature killer, but this was way more fun ... if one can say death can be fun. The Devil from Constantine makes a great Pimp. Don't know who the old Poet or the main Pleasure provider were but they did great. The voice over in the snake scene was very well done. I was touched personally by just a few moments of screen time, Wish I could remember who the actress was. Had a hard time with the "madam," she did well with what she had, winking & all that, but I just didn't know quite what to make of her. When I see it again I am sure I will get a lot more out of her work, but the first time through it was tough. She was in probably the best scene in the movie, when they were sampling her DNA, the thing with the cigarette, Magnificent.

Over all I gotta say the boxer had a bad day.

Gil Grissom: Twenty-five people here last night, and nobody sees anything.

Tanya: [passing by] Nice hat honey.

Sara Sidle: So, uh, you've been to a place like this before?

Gil Grissom: I worked a murder/suicide at the Naughty Kitty once.

Sara Sidle: No, no. Come on, you know what I mean.

Gil Grissom: As a customer? No.

Sara Sidle: You've never paid for sex?

Gil Grissom: I have not. I find the whole idea very... bleak.

      Sara Sidle: Really? How come?

Gil Grissom: Sex should provide the opportunity for human connection, but paid sex does the opposite of that. To me, sex without love is... pointless. It makes you sad.

Sara Sidle: Well, I'm pretty sure I don't make you sad.

Gil Grissom: No. You make me happy.
