So Alan doesn't have to work?

This is an average episode with not many good jokes. It is not terrible, but it is another example of how the writers could never conceive a plot line that is believable and makes actual sense. In this episode, Alan says that he doesn't have to work anymore, because Evelyn offered to pay for Jake's college and car. It is as if he has no other expenses in his life. What about the child support that he still pays to Judith? Alimony is gone, but he still pays the child support. What about the other stuff? Yes, he doesn't pay rent and mooches off Charlie, but even so, he still has to spend an occasional dollar here an there. Are we to believe that he somehow managed to save enough money to last him for the rest of his life?

    • Trivia
Charlie mentions that Alan has been living with him for five years, two months and eleven days. This is almost accurate, as this episode premiered five years, two months and sixteen days after the pilot episode.
    • Goofs
Charlie claims that Evelyn wants to send Jake to college so that he can get a law degree, then get authorization to build a second story on her house. It already had a second story when Jake overflowed the upstairs bathtub and the downstairs ceiling collapsed onto Evelyn's lap in Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab (2005).
    • Quotes

Alan Harper: I'm not gonna make it, Charlie.

Charlie Harper: [with a knowing smile] Didn't think you would.

Alan Harper: No goals, no challenges, no... no gut-wrenching fears driving me forward. I mean, how do you stand it?

Charlie Harper: Me? Well, I have kind of an existential philosophy that shapes my outlook. It involves a willingness to let life carry me along in its wake as I contemplate its infinite mystery. Plus I drink and take a lot of naps.
