Love a good roast, but this was mediocre at best

You ever hear a comedian using swear words just for the sake of using them? That's basically the feel of this roast. Purposefully trying to be raunchy rather than just naturally being so. Raunchiness is not funny when it's forced

I was also disappointed by the many negative gay jokes. I'm not sure they've aged well from 2008 to 2021.

    Insipid Comedy

I like roasts. I like comedy. I am not offended by blue comedy.

I did not care for this.

First off, Bob Saget isn't exactly my kind of comedian. Yes, I am aware his comedy is different than his Full House persona. He was about the highlight of the show.

John Stamos hosted. I suppose that is forgivable given their careers. There isn't much forgiving the stream of comedians who followed.

Most of them were C+ comedians at best. All worked blue. It seemed like the F-bomb was required. One here or there would have been no problem, but it was some people's act.

Why was Cloris Leachman on the dais?

Love Norm Macdonald, but his set was awkward. Would have liked to have seen Sarah Silverman at the lectern, not taped.

What was most horrific, however, is that the comedians worked from very visible scripts, often reading their jokes. Really? This is how you are going to present yourself on national television?

Don't waste your time on this rubbish.

Comedy Central finally roasts a comedian, and it's...alright, I guess

After watching so many of these in a row, this is probably the point where the sameness of the jokes becomes a bit tiresome. And yet, I still found plenty of opportunities to laugh. I watched FULL HOUSE and AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS growing up, so I'm pretty familiar with Bob Saget's work. His raunchy standup, not so much. A lot of the humor hinged on scatology and profanity, as Comedy Central is wont to do, but I laughed at least once for each dais member. The only one that really stood out in a negative way was Norm Macdonald who, if not bombing unintentionally, still did some rather awkward Kaufman-esque performance art that I didn't appreciate very much. Overall, I felt the writing wasn't on par with previously viewed Comedy Central roasts (especially Bob Saget's closing segment), but there were enough comedic nuggets that I didn't feel like my time was wasted.

Norm Macdonald made the roast barrable- all jokes about Bob being gay and paedophilia was disgusting.

The amounts of jokes about the Olsen twins was disgusting. The girls were 6 months old to 9 years old whilst filming Crowded House with Bob Saget. The suggestions about Bob being a p@edophile was alarming. Should Bob be investigated or should the 'comedians' learn some boundaries. The jokes about Bob's girlfriends being in high school and eating disorders were just awkward.

"Act like this never happened" was one of the 'jokes' about the Olsen sisters needing acting lessons because of sexual abuse? GROSS.

"in the brain of a comatose child m$lester whilst watching full house...." quote by Lewis Black.

Its just way too much jokes about Bob being suspicious around children, that I think this roast should be given to police.

Norm was funny and some jokes did make me laugh but overall it was gross and suspicious! If something did happen, can someone speak up.

    Overrated Is An Understatement

I can't believe I used to have this in my top 5.

Despite being considered the greatest roast of all time by a bunch of nostalgic 40-year-olds, this roast sucks. I don't get the love for this roast, it's unfunnier than unfunny. Especially Norm, Jeff Garlin, and Jim Norton. So here's another in-depth, roaster-by-roaster review of this 65-minute disaster. Greg Giraldo had probably his worst performance (by that, I mean least good), Jon Lovitz threw hacky gay jokes everywhere (pot calling the kettle black, if you ask me), Jeff Ross did his usual thing, Susie Essman felt like a cameo, despite having one of the best sets of the roast, Brian Posehn was alright at best, Cloris Leachman just bragged about all the old comics she's "done the dirty with" (thanks, iMDB censors), Norm MacDonald literally read corny jokes off a card set, Jeff Garlin was terrible (he's basically roast poison), Jim Norton was unbearably unfunny and bland, and Gilbert Gottfried, despite having his worst roast set, saved this roast. Roastmaster John Stamos was really only there because he's Bob's friend and Full House costar and for no other reason. Bob Saget's comeback set was one of the greatest ever, though, so I'll give it that, but this roast is overrated and horrible, but somehow it's not the worst. James Franco is. The weird thing is, the dais didn't feature any of Saget's other costars, just a bunch of comics nobody cares about anymore (besides Norm, Gilbert, and Jeff Ross).

    #trash #overrated #unfunny.

    • Trivia
Norm MacDonald conceived his set when director Joel Gallen told him to be shocking. Rather than going down the traditional route, MacDonald instead told a series of corny jokes from a book his father gave him early in his comedy career. The set is widely praised as being one of the best in all of the Comedy Central Roasts.
