    Dissenting opinion

I am not a fan of the episodes about Beckett's mom's murder. Once in a while, I can live with but not love it. So far in the series, they have kept it to a minimum. I happen to believe that the initial low points in the series are coming down the road a bit when Beckett starts getting obsessed with finding the people responsible. This of course leads to episodes in the late seasons, especially the last, where Beckett faces the consequences of what she's told in this episode about that murder leading into areas where she shouldn't be delving. I happen to remember that Serpico was based on a true life NYC cop and fighting corruption in high places is truly dangerous especially alone. I'm not commenting that the story line is either good or bad - I just don't like going down that road, especially in this series that has so many other great things going for it. Katic and Fillion manage to have great chemistry that sucks me in as a viewer, despite whatever is true about the rumors about them behind the scenes. This series was brilliant when it capitalized on that and I am disappointed that they felt they had to resort to this other storyline to maintain interest.

This episode manages to handle all this pretty well yet, but there are tense moments. The writers and director still manage to mix humor and danger well without being totally flippant about it. And there are some tender moments along the way. All of these things foreshadow some good future episodes before they go too far and ruin a great thing.

    Intense/moving

This was the most intense and yet emotionally moving episode to date. Just when you think you have answers, all you end up with is more questions! Ryan and Esposito really step up to the plate in this episode. They really prove they are more than just good cops. Martha poses a great question to Rick, but of course he never directly answers it! But it seems that Rick is finally taking a look at things for what they really are. Beckett has never looked better. She is unbelievably gorgeous in this episode. However, she appears to show a different side of her self in this episode! A side that I personally love! Be sure and check this episode out. It would be great if you have already been watching the other seasons, but by itself, this episode is top notch! Excellent episode!

    Breath taken

First of all, read the above, some are well written.

I just saw it and I couldn't help it, I had to write a comment into awesome episode. (I had to create an account first)

This episode finally make a move on one of the series plot lines. Bring some characters to a whole new level. Lots of surprise, I held my breath (figure of speech) since the very first minutes until the final showdown. Some character's crisis too but some very good stuff between some.

I don't even dare to tell more about it since it's a "must be seen" episode in this "must be seen" series.

For me, this stuff is way above "Lost" (that's just my opinion, don't troll)

    • Trivia
In the second scene at Beckett's apartment Castle tells Beckett, "I don't hang around here just to annoy you." and a few lines later she asks, "So why do you keep coming back, Rick?" This scene plays off a scene in the pilot where they are looking through his fan mail. In that scene she asks him, "Why are you here, Rick? Are you here to annoy me?". These were the only times she called him Rick to that point.
    • Goofs
Detective Raglan asks Beckett to meet him at a coffee-shop at 4th and Main. There is no Main street in Manhattan. Fictional or generic street names that don't necessarily exist in a particular town are often used in movies. This does not constitute a goof.
    • Quotes

Kate Beckett: Look, I signed up for this when I put that badge on. You didn't. It's *not* your fight.

Richard Castle: The hell it isn't. I don't hang around you just to annoy you. I don't ride out to murder scenes in the middle of the night to satisfy some morbid curiosity. If that's all this was, I-I would've quit a long *time* ago.

Kate Beckett: Well, then, why do you keep coming back, Rick?

[long pause as they both look at each other]

Kate Beckett: Look, I may not have a badge... unless you count the chocolate one Alexis gave me for my birthday... But I'll tell you this, like it or not, I'm your plucky sidekick.

Kate Beckett: Plucky sidekick always gets killed.

      Richard Castle: Partner, then.
