Derek's father gets in touch, but he doesn't want anything to do with him. Lizzie passes away, everyone attends her funeral.
The first series comes to an end, in what I can only describe as an incredible piece of television, it's quite profound, compare than with any so called sitcom from the last couple of years.
Humour always works when it is tinged with a degree of sadness, the balance here is just perfect.
That scene where Lizzie's husband talks about how they met, their life together, was incredible, what an acting performance, it hits you like a steam train.
The first time I watched this it had me bawling, it's so unbelievably moving. Watching it years later, I still feel the same, it's just so real, it draws your emotions out, even Kevin manages to move you.
I'm a massive fan of the wonderful Tony Rohr, taking a role like this, shows just how versatile and actor he is, he's brilliant here.
Ricky Gervais delivers yet another incredible performance as Derek, I won't keep on about him, but he's magically talented.
10/10.
