Ozark is back and this season sees the Byrdes becoming different beasts. We jump right into the action with a dramatic shift in tone from where we left off, with the opening scene seeing Marty and Wendy dance and talk politics at a Kansas City event. Before the screen cuts to black and displays the series' signature four-part logo, Marty sends Wendy off to speak with a mystery man. After that, we cut back to present day. Darlene and Ash deal with Del's body. She's still pretty bent on justifying her bloody actions.
Cleanup complete, the Snells stop by the Byrde home. Together, they discuss a plan to make it look like Del drove to Chicago, swiped a card and then "fell off the face of God's earth." The Byrde kids are trying to move on, too. Charlotte has secretly kept $10,000 of her dad's stashed money in case they need it. This proves troublesome for Marty, who soon discovers that Rachel made off with her own stolen cut from his wall stash. Far away, Ruth is in tricky territory with her dad. She testifies on Cade's behalf in front of a parole board. Afterward, she takes out her confused emotions on Marty at the Blue Cat, where she confronts him about her future. Meanwhile, Wendy is examining her new funeral parlor. When she's done suggesting improvements there, she comes by the Blue Cat, where Marty shares the news about the stolen money. Back at house Langmore, Cade is making Ruth uneasy. He prods about her uncle's deaths. In the middle of the night, he comes to her bedside and gives life to her unspoken anxiety all episode: Marty Byrde "ain't her daddy." Can the rest of the season keep up with this insane start? Fingers crossed! While the Byrdes set to work, Helen Pierce is in Chicago seeking security footage of Del swiping his card. When an attendant refuses to help her, she simply sends in a goon to shoot him.
