This film tells a complicated relationship between a loser brother and a successful sister.
I hoped it would be as funny as the last film "Freelance", but unfortunately it is not. The brother is just far too annoying and unlikable for me to get into the film. The sibling rivalry is not funny either. A lot of the supposed rivalry is more silly than funny. The film doesn't know when to end as well, as it just drags on and on in the end. If it wasn't for the handsome Japanese guy and the beautiful female leads, I would have been very very disappointed by this film.

"Brother of the Year" from 2018 starring Sunny Suwanmetanon, Urassaya Sperbund and Nich Khun Horvejkul is a heartwarming comedy mixed with romance. Its color-ful and rich...and it gives out excellent directing and acting. There is sadly not that many movies today at all that presents the relationship between siblings...the connection you actually never can take away. Its with you until you die. You can lose a friend, you can break up with your boyfriend and you can divorce your husband...but a sibling is for life whether you like it or not. Yaya has wonderful chemistry with everyone she acts with, and her collaboration with Sunny is remarkable, as their characters Jane and Chut are siblings who fight and considers each other rivals, while secretly looks upon each other. Their connection is in that they know each other to the core, and aren't afraid to take off their masks to show the naked pain in having to deny each other the support they want to give due to pride and bitterness.
This movie made me laugh my tears off and laugh my ass off. I loved every minute of it, and i consider Yaya and Sunny the true stars of this movie. Their portrayal as the siblings Jane and Chut has everything you would dream of, and me having a brother i also would like to kill sometimes (kiddin about the killin, but he does drive me mad) i actually could symphatize with Jane. You can also hear Yaya talk japanese many times, and watch her with a big pregnant belly! Go For It Yaya!

Mixing comedy with family drama, Brother of the Year explores the rivalry between siblings, though its uneven tone keeps it from reaching its full emotional potential.
This Thai romantic dramedy follows Chut (Sunny Suwanmethanont), an immature older brother whose carefree lifestyle collides with his younger sister Jane's (Urassaya Sperbund) ambitions and relationship with her boyfriend Moji (Nichkhun Horvejkul). The central conflict revolves around Chut's struggle to accept change, as his protective instincts mask deeper insecurities about being overshadowed by his sister.
The film's strength lies in its relatability. Many audiences can connect with the messy push-and-pull of sibling dynamics-the love, frustration, and unspoken loyalty that coexist within families. Sunny delivers a charismatic but flawed portrayal of Chut, balancing humor with stubborn immaturity. Urassaya brings emotional depth as Jane, capturing the weight of responsibility and the desire for independence.
Visually, the film employs bright, modern settings that mirror its light comedic moments. However, tonal inconsistency undermines the narrative. The first half leans heavily into slapstick humor, often at the expense of pacing, while the second half shifts toward melodrama, resulting in an uneven emotional payoff. The conclusion, though heartfelt, feels predictable and less impactful than intended.
Ultimately, Brother of the Year entertains through its cast and relatable premise but lacks the narrative cohesion to elevate it beyond light drama.
Rating: 5/10 - A watchable family dramedy with strong performances but hindered by tonal imbalance and predictable storytelling.

I really like this movie. like most other Asian films, this film still gives a funny and moving drama. but the storyline presented is very impressive, so touching and carrying emotions that oscillate.
