Epic Marauder bombers and Thunderbolt fighters

After the Imperator which is rightly pretty much never seen on the battlefield I thought I'd paint something that'll see more play. Here are my new fighters and bombers which can be used for most armies of the Imperium. To keep them generic, I kept to a humble, grey paintjob so they'll fit in most armies and not look too out of place.

Epic Imperator Titan

Here's one model off my bucket list. Of the over-the-top ridiculous things in 40K, the Imperator Titan ranks pretty over-the-top. I managed to get the model a year and a half back and it's been patiently sitting on my painting desk for that whole time for the right moment. And here it is! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and was struggling to get the pictures to do it justice.

Epic Space Marine aerospace assets

Putting my printer to work. White balance was a bit off in the photo again but not by much.

I have to admit the new thunderhawks look better than my old one:

Epic chaos tanks and defilers

Some armored support I did for my Epic Chaos army for a game a few weeks ago. No fancy stuff but I'll log it here anyway. Note the forumware defilers which were pretty neat but I'm one defiler short of a defiler pack. I can drop one here and there in infantry units, luckily.

A couple of titan maniples for Epic and Adeptus Titanicus

Games Workshop did a new edition of Adeptus Titanicus and while the models make me drool they do cost a lot and are a bit too big to be used in epic. The fact that I had a bunch of old titans unpainted in my lead pile and that you can buy the rules for Adeptus Titanicus without the models led me to the obvious conclusion.

Overall, I aimed to do models that can be used as both loyalistts and traitors for maximum flexibility. That's why there isn't much iconography or faction specific colours on them. The Warlords are the only ones to "show their allegiance".

Team Purple:

These are my traitors and they share the colour scheme of my epic chaos army.

Team Blue:

And here are my loyalists. Their colours don't match with any imperial forces I have, but I painted the Reaver blue this summer so I kept with the theme.

Now I think I just need some knights to complete the set for AT. For Team Purple I have some Slaanesh Knights already painted up, but I need to find a couple of knight models for Team Blue before I can do them.

Epic Reaver Titan

There's a lot of hype going on for the upcoming new edition of Adeptus Titanicus (and it looks great!) so I gathered up the motivation to finish this Reaver I've been working on. I had to take the pic outside to get the colour on that base right.

I did the blue carapace with my airbrush. I'm having difficulties keeping a consistent stream of paint going, it tends to clog up no matter how clean I keep the brush or how much I thin the paint. The result is ok, but using the airbrush is really frustrating right now.

Tzeentch we can believe in

Ok, here's the last batch of Epic figures I needed to get done for this weekend. I painted the whole chaos army in a month so it was a bit of a crunch to do but well worth it and still not that time consuming. I saved some good bits for last and really enjoyed painting the Tzeentch daemon engines.

The doomwings and firelords are pretty cartoonish and I tried to tone that down a bit by using metallic colours instead of flat ones. I like how these turned out.
There are no official thousand sons figures so for these cult marines I used some suitable old chaos marines and a couple of sorcerer models. Nothing fancy but it works.

Nothing says grimdark 40k like fairy tale castles flying on magic mushrooms, right? The silver towers are total Jefferson Airplane White Rabbit stuff and I tried to blend some psychedelic colours on the mushroom the castles sit on top of.

So there you go, all figures complete. Now there's just some minor terrain work for today and then it's off to Kinkkucon!

Chaos Undivided units for Epic

After a bunch of specialists, here's the backbone of my soon-to-be-finished chaos army. Doing these took a fair amount of time even if the end result is quite one coloured. The chapter is called "Invocators". I was trying to find an undivided chapter with fluff that would fit a chaos army fielding a bit of everything and these guys apparently do just that. It's serious business, doing fluff appropriate armies you know. The colours make them easily mixed up with Emperor's Children I guess, but that'll just give me permission to play them as Emperor's Children too!

Closeup on the troops and a rhino. The spiky bits on the rhinos are a bit goofy but the previous owner of the models had already drilled holes for the nails so I ran with it.

The predator tank and some terminators. I was initially supposed to do four terminators per base but found out three already fill up a base just fine.

Epic Slaanesh Units

Working my way towards my 3000 point Chaos Undivided army. Here are some followers of Slaanesh. I took the opportunity to train using my cheapie airbrush with the knights, the plasma glows are the result. They're ok if a bit excessive.

And yes, I had all manner of glam rock and power metal playing when painting those noise marines. "We got the biggest amps, man they blast!"

First models for my Epic Chaos project

I've gone a couple of months without painting anything but I'm getting back in the groove again. Here's some Epic figures. I started my undivided themed army with the Khorne units as I was unsure how the red units would pop out of the reddish brown Mars bases I use with my epic figures. I think they're just fine.

Paukarlahticon V

The fifth Paukarlahticon was on 3-5.June and there were more people than ever there. 30 people came to play over the weekend which I am really happy about. A lot of games played, a lot of beer drunk and lots of war stories in the sauna!

Here are some random photos of some of the games played there. I will make separate posts on Cold War Commander and General de Brigade so you can check those out too.

A lot of Muskets & Tomahawks and Ronin going on this time. I think this is Ronin, correct me if I'm wrong.

Epic 40 000. My Dark Angels vs. Necrons. Looking good!

Or not. I was wiped away promptly. I really need to learn how to play this game :)
Late night drunken Bamboleo.
Good old Heroquest. Which is the best game ever made, obviously.
A tutorial game of Frostgrave.
Soldiers of God. I was interested in this but was too busy showing off Frostgrave to pay too much attention. It looked pretty card driven.
A friend of mine brought his 3D printer. 3D printing will definitely revolutionize our hobby in the coming years. I'll show off some printed stuff I paint later this summer.
The printer at work.
There were boardgames played as usual but as usual I was preoccupied in the miniatures section. If someone took photos, send them and I'll add them to the report.

6mm scifi Mars/Dune terrain project

I wanted my Epic Space Marines based on a rust brown desert theme to look like they are fighting on a planet like Mars or Arrakis, and I think I did quite ok. Now of course, I need terrain for them to fight on as well. Here's what I have gotten together so far:

The table itself. I reused an old foldable gaming table I have by painting on a couple of layers of paint mixed with sand. I tried to eyeball the tone of the paint to be as close to the color on my space marine bases as possible.
Lava rocks. I just bought some of these today, as they're sold as rocks for gas barbecues and not available during our BBQ-unfriendly winter. I think they look great, but the color wasn't just right.

I gave a couple of them a wash of watered down paint. Perfect! The color is just right and they pass off as big boulders, blocking line of sight and breaking the monotony of the field. I think I might attempt to do bigger rock formations with them or try to find big ones from aquarium shops.
A set of low hills

And some bigger rocky hills. The paint is still wet so the color is a bit off (like I could get it to reproduce naturally in this light anyway)
Terrain pieces from Xmarx models. The radar tower has a bit missing at the bottom but my friend who made the order neglected to send it with the rest.
These SAM turrets, gun emplacements and supply trucks should make nice objectives
This Geo dome set is missing a couple of smaller housings, the Xmarx man didn't send them and my friend didn't check the contents of the package so I suppose I'll have to do without. I think these will make a nice habitat instead of your regular Epic 40k houses. Maybe I'll find a clear plastic ball to make a "bio dome" for the set.

Getting the end result to look anything like my inspiration will be next to impossible though. But I have to try! What do you think I should add?
