Have you ever wanted to learn how to tie flies? Join the Shoal Creek staff and MAKO fly fishers as we start a fly-tying series designed for beginners and experts alike. Each session will build off of the previous session, so attendance for all sessions is encouraged. In session #1, we will be going over equipment and supplies needs as we tie Wolly Buggers. We're celebrating the annual return of bald eagles to Lake Springfield. This special event includes the indoor presence of a live bald eagle from Dickerson Park Zoo. Programs will be held at the Nature Center every hour on the hour from 10 am to 3 pm. Opportunities to view bald eagles in the wild, with the assistance of volunteers and spotting scopes, will be available at the Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina during event hours. All ages. No registration required.

Upon registration, participants will be emailed a link to the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite which requires a $25.00 fee to a third-party host. Registrants will need to successfully complete the online course and quiz to attend the field day event. Please bring your certificate of completion to the demonstration burn. We will be conducting a prescribed burn on a nearby property, so please dress accordingly with leather boots, leather gloves, cotton pants, cotton long sleeve shirt, and safety glasses. Participants will learn about burn equipment, burn line installation, safe weather parameters, ignition operations, and other techniques to safely conduct a prescribed burn.
