A Little Bit of Scraping

Part of what I have been scrapbooking is My Life Story so this week I made my binder cover page and the spine.

This picture was taken when I was 40, so 26 years ago.

Binder Spine

Inside I have dividers for each decade plus the year I was married.  On the front of the divider page is a What Happened in that year and on the back is my Time Line for everything that happened in that decade.  On my Time Lines I included things like where I lived, if we moved, school, jobs, births and deaths, and occasionally a historical fact.  I just had a thought I guess I could do a few more of those.  Well that is a project for another day.

Re-Scraping My Dad's Photo Ablum

My Dad made three or four photo albums of our family.  Think about that it was my Dad who made them not my Mom.  I have two of the albums.  I am not sure what happened to the others.  My brother who lived with my Dad until his death and lived in his home until the house sold did not have the albums when
I visited him in 2009.
A few years back I had taken some of the pictures out of the book and placed them on black pages and wrote what my dad had written for each page.  I wanted my albums to all be 8.5 x 11.  I didn't feel good about this so I did not proceed with the project.
Saturday morning while preparing to go scrapbooking with some friends, I hit upon a wonderful idea.  Why not cut the pages out of the books, leaving his pages intact and add them to my paper to fit my books.  I asked my fellow scrapers and they agreed.
I am posting just some of the pages here.  Now that the pages are scanned I can also send copies to my brothers.

I didn't make the pages fancy, just a few embellishments, I wanted the main focus to be my Dad's pages.  These pictures are from their Honeymoon at Niagara Falls, they went to both the NY and Canadian sides and swam in the Great Lakes.

It was hard deciding what paper to use.  I would think oh trees in the background may be a green or a stone bridge brown. Sometimes it was I just like this paper so I went with it.

I did nine pages but I won't bore you with all of them.  I am happy with the results.  I may add some journaling notes and copy what my Dad wrote as his white ink is very faded on the black paper.  I even tried my white ink pen on the old porous paper and it soaks in and is very faded.  I want to save the information.

I did post some of the other pages here.

Here are the two album I have.

More Scrapbooking

Well after scraping day with friends I came home and made a couple of more pages for my Life Story book.  This page explains my name, I was named after my grandmothers and I added their pictures to the page.  They both had died before I was born, so I don't personally know them.

I also did another page for my baby brother.  I used some ideas from Kiwi Lane.  I still have a hard time covering up the designs, but I am sure I will be soon.

Today I watched this video done by Kiwi Lane showing how to make this waterfall page and I went right into my sewing room and made it. The link will take you to the You Tube video.

There are three pages that fold over each other plus two frames on the main paper.  So Kierra and can place five pictures on this one page.  It was fun.  Each picture shows the different waterfall page.  In the top one I use my rounded tip scissors to hold down the top one, it wanted to pop up.

The flower was covered with double sided tape and then ribbon was place on top of the tape and cut around the flower shape.  Kierra isn't much of a flower girl but I think she will like this one.

I was going to place a skull embellishment in the flower center but I couldn't find them.  So I used a black flower.

I also managed to finish 3 more Yo-yos at this rate of three a week it will take me another 19 weeks to just finish the yo-yos.  Oh well, I knew it would be a slow quilt.

Well have a great week and have fun creating!
