SEASONAL SNAPS

Currently on a side table in the bedroom! The way the light comes in, I found it very relaxing.

This post for no other reason,is to just share a few current and pass pictures that I love and make me think of why I enjoy thanksgiving time.

After work today, Ill begin to prepare the feast of thanks for tomorrow. I have everything I need, the turkey picked up from the farm, and my aunt's favorite cookbook out and ready for parts of the meal. Ill prepare a few dished tonight to have ready to just pull out and put in the oven tomorrow morning. My aunt LOVED her Julia Child, as I was honored, she left the three cookbooks by her to me.
Ah candlelight.
My beloved material grandparents before they married.
My current turkey collection on the kitchen table.
Remembering dear Lilith waiting one year for the bird to come out of the oven. And yes, she waited THE WHOLE TIME.
Remembering Buster and my current Sophie from one Thanksgiving. It seems every dog I have is always a kitchen dog...meaning always under foot when in the kitchen cooking waiting for a scrap to fall. Sophie and Lily were almost always in the kitchen when I'm cooking.

When I lived in the old pied de terre who remembers when the wild turkeys would come out of the woods and roam the grounds? I'll never forget that.
The last picture is not mine but I always makes me chuckle.

A HEART BREAKING

It's with sad news that I have to report that the little Lord of the Casa du Borghese Buster Bolfig Borghese, has passed on. I just now feel like posting this, but it actually happened once back from my birthday trip. His breathing had become labored, and his trachea and kidneys weakening. The vet I was told said there wouldn't be much time left. On his final day, before going to sleep, he enjoyed a full-on grilled chicken sandwich, ice cream and a huge walk. It couldn't be more perfect with him going out spoiled. And then the next day , as if saying it was time... the time came. It had been back in 2009 that he came into my and the ex boytoy's life. Even after our split, we shared custody. Buster became the city mouse with the boytoy, and the country mouse with me. Little Buster was a new puppy in 2006 though. He was but 3 years old when we got him as a rescue.  One of the best dogs and temperaments I've ever seen in a dog and got along with all creatures it seemed. His passing hit hard just like Lillith's two years prior. It never gets easy. He will and is already missed. What a hell of 19 years he led. He lived LIVED!!!!
Buster's last picture. Good night sweet boy

HALLOWEEN PSA

Buster Bolfig Borghese advises being alert and looking down on walks, so you don't encounter or caught off guard from below the ground unwanted visitors in this here season.

And this wasn't Buster's first encounter as a skeleton hunter. You may recall this several years ago in Lambertville.....

This has been a Casa du Borghese Public Service Announcement.

BRIGHT SPOTS

I present our Senna Didympbotrya, or better known as the Cassia Popcorn plant. Mind you back in June, these three were only about 4" high! The Cassia is an annual plant I put in the garden each year and is in the legume family and is native to Africa. They are stunning and I love to watch them grow. And when you rub the velvety leaves, your hands smell like buttered popcorn. Flower spikes emerge by mid to late summer and last well into fall. The spikes have dark brown buds that open from the bottom first then open to the top giving spectacular yellow spikes. The flowers then attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. There currently seems to be a lot of bursts of yellow right now. It's been a good relaxing weekend, and one I needed since being back from the Carribean. All told I great weekend lounging about in the garden.

Other bright spots....
The Queen of Sheba
A bee on the beautiful green onion grass flower in the herb garden.

Some clippings for indoors.
Some harvested hydrangeas for a neighbor.
The little Prince!

My first batch of chicken corn soup made! The corn this year is amazing, and I used herbs from the garden. I already enjoyed two bowls. The huge stock pot made a ton of soup...25 containers to be frozen and enjoyed later and others given to friends. So there was that too.
