I'm sorry for the dumb question but I really liked the Anime Anne Happy and I wanted to find a DVD release for it but I found this and was wondering if it is a official release? IDK why but I have seen this specific type of DVD packaging for Dragon Crisis! and This Art Club Has a Problem. It just looks not official.

This looks pretty legit, but I've seen someone say that another legit-looking box set is actually not legit but a bootleg from Malaysia.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzLirdZ9vSI

(I disagree with the reviewer's opinion on the show he's talking about, but that's not the point of my posting it here, of course.)

Though I gotta give whoever makes these bootlegs props for doing a damn fine job of it.

100% bootleg. Any dvd with Malaysia, English and Chinese summary on the back, used fanart (which official DVD and BD’s never do, is a bootleg. Also, the anime name written in Chinese on the front and the “vol 1-12. End” immediately gives it away that it’s a bootleg.
Help the industry and buy Blu-rays and DVD's.

No problem! I have noticed these all over eBay whenever a seasonal anime finishes airing. This company is very quick with these.

Here’s another tip - price. These bootleg DVD’s are usually sold for SUPER cheap prices, like $4-$10. Any anime with 12+ episodes will never be that cheap. Official releases cost over $30-$60 depending on if it’s a DVD or blu-Ray, how many episodes, etc.

How to spot an official DVD or Blu-Ray? 1. The summary/synopsis on the back is only in English. 2. A logo on the side like funimation, Sentai Filmworks, or any other company name that dubs or licenses anime.

So basically.... Avoid eBay when buying DVD’s and just stick to amazon or rightstufanime.

Well, those are for western (e.g. US/Canada/Europe) releases. This one's a Malaysian product so I dunno what licensors there are (if any) in southeast Asia.

Thank you for the help! I knew something was up with the box art and I just wanted to make sure. Still that means there's no way to get this anime on DVD, darn.

Yeah, it's definitely a bootleg. The Malaysian subtitles gave it away.

It's a bootleg and not a very good one, either. There are multiple fakes out there that look 100% legit, but this one is pretty obvious.
That fan-art made me laugh.

PS: That show is underrated.

"unauthorized public performance, broadcasting, renting and copying of this disk prohibited"
the irony...

i dont think its a fan art, but rather a screenshot of the art shown at the end of an episode.
still fake though.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

I'm not finding anything substantial on this so called "Glorious Media Sdn Bhd" distributor. Also, it's supposed ASIN code, B01 KUSN9KY, that I got from this Amazon listing isn't yielding any otehr results.

It's what they used to call an hkdvd (referring that the majority of them came from Hong Kong at that time) or simply a "bootleg". And I should know because my early anime collection consisted mostly of them.

I didn't want to assume this was bootleg just because it had Malay subtitles, but Glorious Media has been seen selling bootlegs elsewhere, so I wouldn't trust them.

Totally a bootleg. I have a couple of Naruto DVDs which look fairly similar.

I have a lot of these Malaysian bootleg DVD's and I honesty don't care. The whole region DVD thing is huge scam anyway. They almost never have the DVD's for my region and/or are over priced for the anime I want, so I'm kinda fine with the Malaysian bootleg stuff.
Sorry, due to licensing limitations, this message is unavailable in your region.

Is paying the Malaysian censorship board to rate bootleg releases cheaper than just licensing the anime for Malaysia? The world may never know.

Danger Will Robinson It's definitely a bootleg from the looks of it.

-Any anime that contains Chinese and English subs is a big red flag. Although there are some legit international versions that do they are rare. Discs with that combination of languages are usually also marked as "region free" or "Region 0" and you should be highly suspicious of these as something with no region encoding is a common tool of pirates.

- R1 release would be a Crunchyroll/Funimation collaborative release since Crunchyroll has the English rights to the show. A release would probably also be Blu-ray/DVD combo pack so wrong company and media types.
