Frieren

I don't really understand hating a character because of fanart you've seen of them elsewhere, but I guess if you're following discussion of the show on Twitter it might be tedious seeing that sort of art over and over.

I don't really see the appeal of the character myself; I don't mind her but I find her a bit annoying at times.

I fail to see the logic. There's a ton of lewd fan art of the character Frieren too, but you don't hate Frieren for it.
If you don't like seeing lewd fan art, you don't have to. Also if Ubel didn't exist you wouldn't have less lewd fan art, but probably just more lewd fan art of Frieren and Fern

So you basically hate people who're sexualizing cartoon characters, online. That's weird...and has nothing to do with the actual character^^
Im also thinking that your definition of a good character ...aka...a character "that the audience can imitate" is a bit off.
That's not what makes a character good or bad, you know. For most people it's not.

All in all I think you're just annoyed with random people you don't know finding something sexy and raving about it.
Has nothing to do with the Anime, really...or even any character. This problem is between you and the internet.

Well, I can see you have your reasons to hate the character. Although it is rare for me to hate an anime character (save a few exceptions) I can, at least, share the feeling of not linking Ubel.
In terms of storytelling she has her place. She is clearly a sociopath - she is there to cause mayhem and put other characters in a bad place. For that, she is well written, because she really perform such actions. However, for me, that’s where the interesting part of Ubel’s character stops.
Taking away this storytelling feature that she offers, I find her highly annoying. So far I am unable to enjoy her character. But hey, maybe that’s what the authors wants, who knows.

Aside from that, I also share your feelings of loving the character development of Frieren. I don’t think is that big of a development, but is there. She is slowly growing and I love that she is not like all other mages that want power and admiration. Frieren lives her life, like her own stuff, and is learning to live and enjoy moments. Go Frieren!

@Merve2Love Thank you, friend, I'm also happy about that, but what I'm talking about is the voting results from the official Frieren account on X last night, you can check it from the link I embedded above. I wanted to cry when I saw Frieren's ranking in 5th place.

Übel deserves his place but Aura?? NO wtf who voted for her, Frieren should have been there. Unfortunately, Aura won thanks to memes xD

Is it just me or did the OP change both the title and the message of the thread? I’m pretty sure it was something about Ubel and Aura at first.

If it ain't a bait thread, then it sorta confirms one of the things that some Frieren haters have been saying for a while. The one about how a part of Sousou no Frieren anime's fanbase is supposedly overly emotional when it comes to stuff that is not even directly related to that anime itself. People get overly excited about Ubel, so what? The same can be said about feetservice's enthusiasts. You can also see a lot of them among anime fans of this series.

I think you should just ignore them and move on. Popularity contests ain't a big deal in most cases. It's just a funny way to say who the most popular character is, that's all. True, some people overreact and start rigging the voting, but just ask yourself a question: is anyone responsible for it, other than those people? Should you be blaming the fictional character that is receiving a lot of attention? Or heck, maybe the whole anime is to blame? For sure, a lot of those who have been crazy over Ubel started their adventure with Sousou no Frieren from this really good looking animated series. ;p As you see, it's better to just ignore that kind of stuff, move on, and be happy for how many people have shared their love for the character you like by voting for them.

If you are having problems with just ignoring this, then how about this: try to see this situation from another person's perspective, and be happy that they also love the show that you like, even if some other people express their positive emotions towards this anime in, let's call it, original way, and like different stuff than you about the show (including the characters).

I'm a person who gets obsessed easily so maybe this is just my problem.
