Synopsis

Next to Miyu Suzuki, a trendy and bubbly high school girl, sits Yuusuke Tani, a quiet and frank boy. Their interactions are brief, limited to Suzuki's unprompted random questions and Tani's succinct answers. Yet, beneath these simple exchanges, feelings of love are quietly blossoming.

Suzuki sees Tani for who he is: a straightforward boy who respects everyone equally, completely unconcerned about fitting in. Unlike Tani, she is too hung up on what everyone else thinks, desperate to keep her crush a secret. However, a slight misunderstanding leads to Suzuki confessing her feelings—and to her delight, Tani feels the same. Jittery with excitement, the young couple starts dating, embarking on a wonderful journey of friendship and love.

Seihantai na Kimi to Boku ranked ninth in the 2023 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division. The manga was nominated for the 16th and 17th Manga Taisho Awards, placing third and seventh in the final rankings, respectively.

The series was published digitally in English as You and I Are Polar Opposites through MANGA Plus. The volumes were published by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint from May 7, 2024, to February 3, 2026.

Too many romance series end right when the couple gets together. This manga, shows the life of being a couple and it is incredibly wholesome. Just as the title of the manga suggest, the main couple are completely opposites in terms of personality. Suzuki Miyu is a high energy, extroverted person who falls in love with the very quiet, introverted Tani Yuusuke.

The manga explores how both these characters deal with being a couple as they are both very new to all of it. While the series is mostly a fun slice of life, it does have some drama in some of the issues and tribulations ...

You and I Are Polar Opposites initially centers around the relationship between the energetic and extroverted Suzuki, and the reserved and quiet Tani. Since both of them are new to relationships, we see them grow and develop not only as a couple, but as people too. As the manga progresses, we see other relationships begin to form and the story explores how these characters interact and develop as they navigate their lives in high school.

It started really good but it definitely lost me as the main characters get less and less attention to the point of eventually becoming more secondary characters to the other couples it introduces. Idk if the author got bored of them but you can definitely feel the switch where it’s no longer ‘about’ them. Of the two other main couples I think the third one I was ok with cause both characters were actually interesting but the second just didn’t do anything for me, maybe cause they feel more like archetypes without any real interested traits then unique characters.

I think the art is charming ...
