There is some major inspiration from Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou here. Specifically the art. As soon as I saw the clouds, the ship, the fish, I couldn't not think of YKK. Aside from the art, and enhanced by the art, the blend of fantasy and sci-fi being used in Twinstar is very reminiscent of YKK. There is also the matter of the sky ships creation and creator. Very similar to the sky ship in YKK. It makes me feel that the author may have intended this as a spiritual sci-fi sequel to YKK.
